Trona, armpit of America

Trona is quite possibly the worst place in America, if not the world. Many cities have pleasant little slogans on their welcome signs ("San Jose: Capital of Silicon Valley", "Tehachapi: Land of Four Seasons", "Welcome to Brooklyn: How sweet it is!", and so on); Trona has this:

Welcome to Trona: 24 Hour Services

I suspect the sign is a bit out of date, though, as this is the only gas station in town:

Gas station

Door of service station

And this is the motel. The reason it needs so many "open" signs? All the windows visible from the street are shattered and/or boarded up.

Motel open

The whole town has a rancid chemical odor from the chemical plant that's pretty much the only employer in town, and the two older residential districts are half-abandoned, with many burned-out houses. (The newest residential district is not yet decaying, but give it time; land is so cheap that houses are more or less disposable. And once the newest district is abandoned, Trona is pretty much SOL, as that one is right up against the county line.)

Burnt house

Even in the nicest areas, the front lawns are just dirt, with occasional scrub or cacti. The town is so polluted that grass simply won't grow. (Trona High School's football team plays on one of only two dirt playing fields in the United States; the other is glacial silt in Juneau, Alaska.)

maybe they should rename the town "troma" after the movie company who made such classics as the toxic avenger and nukem high

Wow! you're doing a great California coverage! Liked a lot ghost town, Trona and the signs as usual :)

Posted by: mim* at November 4, 2003 03:13 AM

you are WAY wrong about Trona homeboy! The Trona entrance to Death Valley is the BEST BY FAR! The drive from Ridgecrest to Trona is awesome. Trona even has its own railroad for the salt they scoop up from the flats.

Posted by: rudayday at November 7, 2003 12:51 PM

Your view of Trona is one-sided and quite negatively slanted. There is a lot of beauty there that you have grossly overlooked.

Posted by: cm at December 23, 2003 07:15 PM

Ahh Trona, just one of many ramshackle California desert towns. The hillbilly, racist, white trash mentality is alive and well in California, you just need to look in the Mojave Desert.

Armpit of America indeed.

Posted by: apt at March 10, 2004 01:42 PM

Well I haven't been back to Trona in eons and feel no reason to. But it's sad to see it in such a shabby state.

Posted by: jmc at July 1, 2004 05:12 PM

Obviously you haven't done your homework. The gas station you show as the only one in town is not and has not been for many years. There is a very nice and obviously open gas station about a mile away. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but yours is unfortunately very one-sided. There's much more to see than the few photos you took and it certainly looks like you took the worst you could find.

Get a life!

Posted by: trona81 at September 3, 2004 06:40 PM

I bought a home here in March of 2003. Moved here from Orange County,Ca. The people here are obviously the result of generations of incest. I'm able to survive by driving 238 miles round trip to the Trader Joe's in Palmdale and purchasing online. I got bucks. Lots of'em. So I live in air-conditioned luxury while the locals who I call Tronians continue to defile their sisters and daughters. Charles Manson & his girls made Trona their home back during the 1960s. It figures. I found Trona by websearching Hell.

Posted by: Fred at October 6, 2004 05:30 PM

I can not belive some one would be so narrow minded to say what you have said about our Town so many hard working people live in the Town of Trona, like me.
I represent a Volunteer Group Trona Care every one check out our web site and see what is Really Happening here or what and will happen.
ANY of you that are so negative about TRONA WE DO NOT WANT YOU !!DO NOT COME HERE STAY THE HELL OUT OF OUR TOWN (GOT THAT ) THIS MEANS YOUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And or any of you small minded people that degrade a small town and probably are the ones that came here with your dopper freinds and tore up our town and made it to and unsightly state we have today.
You might think it's fun to degrade people you have never met, May God try to forgive you for your Sins against your fellow Man.
And FRED You Are a LIAR you came Trona Thru the Trona Care Web Site , if you hate this Town so much and hate what it is then You get the Hell out of here.
Do not defile the Name of this Community any more as we are no Worse than any other place in America
We are small Town so things do tend to Stand out More and be more visible here.
The Vandalism is the Result of the Yonger Generation of our Times, in a Big City you would not notice this as much like you do here as we are a very small Town.

Well there ya go. A fine demonstration of Tronian brain-material. Anyone else would have a sense of humor, laugh about the situation and turn it to his/her advantage. It is Trona's remoteness from the mainstream of society that gives it charm. The people who live here ar'nt city-bred wussies. They're tough. That sets them apart and should be something to be proud of. But no. We get stupid reactions like this. Until the people here grow brains and get off their stupid, lazy asses Trona will continue to fade into desert nonexistence. Hey Tronians, have I upset you? Is there even ONE smart person among you who'll listen to what I've said? Naw,I don't think so. Geeks & freaks, that's today's Trona. Bakersfield and San Bernardino County send all their Welfare cases and dope addicts to Trona. This is a dumping-ground for society's gutter filth.

Posted by: Fred at October 6, 2004 06:59 PM

Now that last night's beers have worn off I can be a bit more rational. Trona's #1 problem is failure to address outsiders' shock at seeing Trona for the first time. I came here in March of 2003. I thought there'd been a riot here. I stood in one spot and counted nine homes burned to the ground or abandoned and trashed. Newcomers drive thru town and their jaws drop open from the shock. Looks like Hiroshima after the bomb. Pretty soon I will have lived here for two years. And I still do not know why people would burn, trash and destroy their own neighborhood.

Posted by: Fred at October 7, 2004 10:47 AM

Posted by: ResidentofTrona at October 9, 2004 04:20 PM

Methinks ResidentofTrona is one of Trona's vast swarm of meth addicts. Half of Trona's population is normal. The other half are meth freaks who knock up their sisters.

Posted by: Fred at October 11, 2004 04:43 PM

Well your opions are one sided. I have lived in the mojave desert all my life and recently moved to Trona against my wishes we had no choice because we could not afford to live anywhere else since then my mail doesn't get delieved because the mail person is too lazy to get out and walk two feet my children have been seriously injured and harrassed. So Trona isn't the armpit of the world it's the armpit of the universe.

Posted by: Newbee at November 18, 2004 12:25 PM

to Newbee: You must look at the good side of this. Is there a good side? Well,um,yeah it's there if you search for it. Trona is so far out in the desert that we have no mosquitos. The crazy ar-rabs might blow up Los Angelese but Trona, never. Who cares a crap about Trona. We do have flying saucers out here. Did you read my letter in Sunday's Daily Independent? I can't go outside without one of the damn things hovering over me.
Letter To The Editor

Recent sighting may have been tests at base says acidhead Tronian reader

Sunday, November 14, 2004 10:07 AM PST

It bothers me a bit, seeing this subject discussed in print. I think what we're seeing is the result of ongoing research at China Lake. If so, it's a national security issue.

I've been a proud Tronian since March of 2003. Three times I've seen things in the sky I cannot explain. One was a large, glowing, green object that approached from the west at 11 p.m. months ago. It was, like, totally cool.

I watched it from my bedroom window. I thought it had come down on Searles Dry Lake. Thought it must've been a meteorite. Went out the next day looking for it. Whatever it was it came down on the other side of the Panamint mountain range. I checked news services, found no mention of it.

The other two sightings resulted from me flying radio controlled model airplanes. When these tiny planes are flying half a mile away they're only a dot in the sky. So you've got to concentrate on the section of the sky where they're at or you'll lose sight of them. This greatly enhances long-distance vision.

Tracking my planes I once saw what looked like a pure white badminton shuttlecock at high altitude. I fixated on the thing for a full minute while my model plane crashed. The third sighting might be explained-away as a jet contrail. But whatever it was it was at the edge of space. Appeared to be entering the earth's atmosphere.

I think that with so much attention being paid to Area 51, UFO research was moved to China Lake. And that's what we're seeing in the sky.

Well, you show us the the bad side, lets see if you are a big enought man to take some pictures of the other side of trona you talk about, and get some picture what Connie talk about, in her reply. If you can't,it just show me you are just a lot of mouth with a camera. Abe Pfister, Hartville, Ohio

If your headed toward the majestic Death Valley be sure to pass through Trona at dusk with Miles Davis' Kind of Blue on your CD player and your windows cracked open to let plenty of that pungent burning smell waft through your car. As the lights aglow on the chemical plants and the fading sun tints the salt pan lakebed a delicate pink rose you will feel you have wandered into a dream on the edge of Death. Sure there is decay, but a quiet defiance in the face of industrial supply obligations on the edge of a jewel of a desert makes this truly a sublime place to visit.

Posted by: Desert Wanderer at December 2, 2004 11:58 PM

The world beyond Trona is sooo rich! Trona is so desparately poor. Please leave the filth and the retched conditions before poisoning your kids or dying yourself unknown and unmissed. Its true that you're surrounded by vast beauty but you are trapped in an industrial pit with no hope of freedom. Defend it if you will, but I have travelled the world and Trona is the most vile and hopeless place I have ever seen. This includes the inner city areas that I have visited, lived in, and worked in. Good luck folks!

Posted by: brian at December 10, 2004 09:44 AM

I recently drove through Trona from my first visit to Death Valley. I'd never seen such a depressing place.

Hello people and visters of Trona I've read the editorials above and you all have your own appinons and i must say that I agree with everyone. Becouse there is a truth to it all said Trona has the most beutiful sights to the most awful sights I was born and raised in Trona until apr 03 I joind the army to better my self while in Iraq I just could wait to get back home to trona becouse that is where my home is it dosen't matter where you where born or where you where brought up that is what you have learnd to love and I for one and most other Noble trona people stick around trona hoping for the best that one day the plant will stop being sellouts and once again give back to the community to bring it back to what it once was a nice peacefull community, But what i've recently have noticed is that the drugs and meth labs are taking over and destroying lives it is awful and heart breaking to see- SPC FARMER -out-

Posted by: tonya at December 17, 2004 10:11 AM

recently passed thru trona with some other folks. i had described to them what i had experienced there some years earlier; it's desolate, smells bad, and i hear it's hard to hire teachers. my travel companions were not let down. they saw all i had seen and then some. if you read previous posts on this site, the two brians, (upper case and lower case guys), spell the trona condition well and from different views; resident and observer. as for residentoftrona, another poster, his views and link spells out much of what has gone wrong and on so many levels.........

Posted by: bozo at December 20, 2004 02:07 AM

Tronains, If you dont like it there and its so bad why dont you do something about it. Like start with cleaning it!
You have so much to offer. THink of it this way America was a penial colony as was Australia. The lowest of all. But look at what they did with nothing. you have charming homes, a gorgous view and a lot of day-light. With some little enthusuasim you could have such a wonderful towm

i cant recall the name of the plant owners right off but i recall seeing both the name of the original owners as well as the new (early '04 i think) when i was looking for trona links. found some distressed property for sale too. oh joy. trona has an annual gem show, had its own currency once, and has one of the countrys only 2 all dirt highschool ball fields.

a little slice of heaven...

In response to Dennis, the company that owns and operates Trona is the Searles Valley Minerals Company. I passed through there yesterday. Even Deb's Cafe is permanently closed now. So there is now no place to eat lunch.

I bought a home in Pioneer Point in March,2003. Today's Christmas,Dec 25th. After all's said & done I'm glad I'm here. Tonya is right about the postmaster. The guy sucks burritos. Got hisself a comfy government job and you can all kiss his ass far as he's concerned. Visiting the Trona post office will evoke your fight-or-flight response. He's a bunghole but most of the rest of Trona are so-so normals. We got a kickass cop here,Tim Lotspeich. Tim eats meth freaks for breakfast. I'm 58,retired with a bundle of money from selling my Orange County property. There's more good people in Trona than gang members & freakazoids. You can live well here and safely on little money. You'll need a sense of humor, though. America is'nt what it was when I was born in 1946. Trona is the 1950s frozen in time. I like that. If you've got some retirement money income, come here. You'll be happy as a clam at high tide. You'll love it here. Your kids, too. If you're a Welfare case meth freak, live somewhere else. That's a sincere threat.

Posted by: Fred at December 25, 2004 08:08 PM

Actually, I thought Ridgecrest was the asshole of California, and Trona was 20 miles up it?

Can anyone tell me about the town of Argus. I just bought a lot there. I hear two very different sides to your town. Just wish I knew which one is more right. I did read somewhere on the net that property values were expected to go up. Why is that or was i misinformed.

Posted by: LARRY at December 31, 2004 04:42 PM

Thanks to Larry for the good insight. Being from the midwest, never occured to me about fire marshal orders. Are all the streets in Argus dirt? I did find an aerial picture taken of Argus but it was several years old. It will be probably 10 years before ready to build so sure lots can change for the better or worse. Do you know of anyone in the area that does freelance photo work that I might be able to pay to get them to take a photo of my lot?

Posted by: jim at January 2, 2005 02:03 PM

to Jim: You bought a lot in Argus? Oh gawd. Okay, here's the scene. Pioneer Point is Simi Valley. Argus is a bunghole of meth freaks, imported Welfare cases, the mentally whacked, wierdo desert religions, criminality and incest. The best thing that could happen to Argus is that God smites it flat then we can re-build it minus the gutter filth.

Posted by: Fred at January 12, 2005 08:15 PM

I recently purchased a lot in Argus as well. Looking through the Los Angeles Times it seemed that just about every city in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, San Diego and San Bernardino Counties posted home value increases. There were a few that didn't with Trona having the largest net loss of 50%! Did I ever feel dumb. On the other hand I really didn't pay that much for the lot so it really isn't that big of a deal to me. I had originally purchased it to keep my travel trailer there. My main concern is vandalism. Am I right to be concerned?

ran across this site after trying to figure out where the heck "trona" was...in response to an obituary...i figured it was somewhere near muscoy...well, geographically i was off by a few hundred miles, but from the pix here, it looks as if muscoy would be an improvement!

i hate the thought of children growing up in the atmosphere shown here...that's why i got mine the heck outta muscoy, while it looks as if my late friend took a turn for the worse, in more ways than one...

Trona is a very beautiful place full of beautiful people. I was happy to live there for a few years and I coached lots of great kids there. I do not doubt that many of my old friends are still working very hard to make Trona a great place to live. My prayers for peace and happiness remain with all who dwell in Trona and the surrounding area.

Trona is a place no-one who had class or a functioning brain would re-locate to. The buildings are sinking into the dry lake and half the town do dope.

If you need to disappear for some/any reason, Trona would be the place to go. It's like Adelanto only smaller and further out in to the nothingness of the California High Desert. So if you need to hide out after a big job, someplace where no body will finf you, I think Trona would be the place to go. Certinly plenty of places to hide the bodies or search for UFO's or whatever you need to do without going noticed by anyone that matters.

I moved to trona a year and a half ago, and I see all the points made, however look at it like this, you are who you run with. Kick it with tweekers, pot heads, drunks, and loosers who want free hand outs then thats what you will eventually become. Become friends with those people who want to make a decent living enjoy a quite life and stay away from the drama, you might find that Trona is worth living in. Grow where God plants you! I laughed when I first got here, I thought it was gonna be some horrible place with horrible people, but its not I have found plenty of good whole hearted, SOBER people, trying to make it just like my family and I. Life is what you make it, no matter where you live! Never judge a book by its cover, open that book, put on your glasses and read you will find things that you like and things that you dont, just because there are some parts of that book you dont care for does not mean its not worth reading! Oh ya and you can get some good grub at Trails or Sandys deli! For those of you who have been misinformed on the food facts of Trona!!!! Peace out

I had the misfortune of driving thru Trona on a recent trip! The place has to be THE most pathetic excuse for a town within the USA. My buddy and I were amazed by the absolute thrid world condition of this toilet! The local bar was closed with "Fuck You" written all over the front of it. We rationalized that the main recreation of the people living there(make that Existing there) was probably suicide!
I can bet if they sell guns, they dont sell ammo!
I would say the security guards who work at the plant re there to prevent those who are stuck working there from tossing themselves into the crushing machines! Armpit is NOT the operative word..try Rectum! The Ructum of America is Trona!

My bud, above is correct. Man, I've been to Belize and this town has the whole country there beat..
Gotta say this, We drove that morning from Tonopah and after miles of nothing much reached Trona ..what a shithole. I just drove thru, ..stunned. It's like the freakin' Moon.
Super Drummer and I just stared and laughed at the place.. Why would anyone live there? Hell, if California REALLY wanted to punish the Manson clan, make them live in Trauma..er, Trona.
If I ever want a teenybopper girlfriend again, I'll just saddle up the chopper and cruise Trona's excuse for a high school hangout sometime.. Just point to the prettiest girl and say, "Wanna ride outta here, hop on" Bet she doesn't even go home for a goodbye.
Tronaites, ain't nothing a 25 megaton H-bomb can't clean up.. Sheesh.

You people have hit the target,Tronawise. Captain Brak was right-on about the meth freaks, here. I've lived in Trona almost two years, now. Moved here after I sold my property in (civilized) Orange County. The whole town consists of Tobacco Road hick gutter trash, dope addicts by the gazillion and other assorted life's castaways. All these geeks do is rant about how cool Trona used to be during the 1920s. I'd like to give these rejects lessons in class but they're too caught up in banging their family members and doing meth to understand what I'm saying. Know what really burns me up? It's when they get snooty if you say Trona sucks. It does suck. Like Hell's vacume cleaner. Like Michael Jackson on a boy.

Posted by: Fred Hermon at March 5, 2005 06:11 PM

Advice to potential Trona home-buyers: I bought a home here for $24,000. A bargain, right? I have had to spend another $12,000 to burglar-proof my house. A 6' steel fence surrounds my property. Two steel security doors,a 1000lb steel safe and burglar bars on all eight of my windows plus several loaded handguns kept ready at all times. It's kids here, mostly, who burglarize (then set fire to) Trona homes. It's their parents' fault. Trash begets trash. Trona is packed to the gills with freakazoid oakies. Drunks,dopers,sister-lovers,daughter-lovers,mother-lovers. Charles Manson and his girls loved Trona. It figures.

They have a 4th grade education and are proud of being "Country" ie; ignorant sub-humans. -The difference between my burg and your's is we keep these retards away from the outside World..
I saw the "other" Trona sites. -Who are they kidding, themselves? ..Get COPS to do a Trona episode with the local Sheriffs SWAT Team and bust those vermin out.. Then apply for Superfund Cleanup..er..State urban renewal aid, and clean that dump up some.. Trona Care, huh.. -Quit fucking jawing and DO SOMETHING! I like Trona, a lot. It has a couple of decent motels, gas station, and I think the plant hosts a rock hunting extravaganza every year...the locals put on a pancake breakfast, etc., and my sis never misses it. She thinks the locals are very nice. Okay, Trona is in the middle of a stark landscape; it's very close to Death Valley; what do you expect? The landscape is also mysterious and beautiful, and really, who needs to be run over by a soccer mom in the Trader Joe's parking lot? I wouldn't mind living in Trona at all.

Posted by: Mary B. at March 25, 2005 04:33 PM

I like Trona, too. I bought a house here two years ago. The problem is there's lots of poverty, ignorance and dope here. It's the same for all small, desert communities. Dope addicts can buy a shack here for $1,000,call it a house, live in it and manufacture meth. If our top-cop here Tim Lotspeich, who lives down the street from me,ever left town we'd have a vigilante squad ASAP. Either that or the good people abandon their homes and leave town.

Posted by: Fred at March 25, 2005 05:15 PM

Here's why Trona looks like a dump. Kids are burning the homes down, here. 13 year olds. If you drive thru the heart of Trona you'll see dozens of burned, trashed, vandalized homes. This tells you the kind of people who live here.

Firefighters from Ridgecrest and Trona were sent to a structure fire at 82250 7th St. in the Argus section of Trona at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday. There were no injuries from the flames that destroyed the abandoned single family home, whose cause is still being investigated.

Know why I knock Trona, here? It's because the small-town mindset gets in the way of improving Trona's standard of living. Both for long-time residents and newcomers. I had to face that even before I came here. And still do after two years residency. It's ridiculous, infantile and counter-productive. Admit our problems then deal with them, effectively. Every small town thruout the World faces this.

Thank you. What this website discussion of Trona boils down to is if you plan to buy property here, use common sense. Use instinct. Two years ago there was a website I found from a Brit who got conned into buying 5 acres of land in Trona. He was so PO'd once he saw it he made a website illustrating his sad experience. Homes here and land are a wonderful bargain but only if you understand the reality. This holds true no matter where you look. Realtors will tell you what you want to hear. Protect yourself. That said,I bought a home here and I'm happy as a clam at high tide. Living in Trona will probably add twenty years to my life.

i live in argus i dont do drugs or even drink beer me and my kids are very happy here. i havent seen any of the things your talking about except for the houses and thats because rich people out of town dont take care of their propertys they just use them for a tax write off one thing i can say about this town if you needed help the cops , the preachers, the good people or the tweekers would help you judge not for thou shall be judged

Tweakers? Meaning meth addicts? If you want to help Trona, turn those tweakers in to Trona's top cop Corporal Tim Lotspeich. I was a landlord for a decade before coming to Trona. I dealt with tweakers firsthand. One of them, high on meth, tried to cut my throat. If you think tweakers are cool, you need help and you need it fast. You sound young. Meth will make you insane, take away anything and everything of value in your life and put you in the grave.

The real problem is outsiders like I was coming to Trona and being hit with a brick wall of small-town self-protectionism. We're coming to Trona with money, you idiots. When we see Trona for the first time and ask why it looks like a junkyard in Hades, don't play your dumb act on us. Outsiders did'nt destroy Trona, the residents did. You people defecated in your own bird nest and that's why there's so much web info denigrating Trona. Tourists by the thousands drive thru Trona and say "Oh my gawd, what happened here?".

Posted by: Fred at March 31, 2005 07:09 PM

hey fred if youd put the crack pipe down and get off your sister ,youd have more money to fix the town. you must have been molested by your father, or your mother or something cause all hear you talking about is incest. get some help i think im going to move im scared to live in a town with someone like you

Posted by: eric at March 31, 2005 10:51 PM

One reason not to buy a home in Argus is it's known as the meth capital of Trona. A lot of teenagers there are hooked on meth. Adults, too. It's a tragedy. From my personal experience dealing firsthand with tweakers or 'meth freaks' as they're known, long term use of the drug causes permanent brain damage. It certainly causes psychosis. We've got millions of kids like this in America. They'll all be Welfare cases when they reach adulthood.

Found this on the web..

Town/Village: Trona, CA

It's a salt works in the middle of the desert with some associated awful habitation.

Think big chemical plant pipes, huge rusting trains, empty streets, vast vistas of nothing and pickup trucks with gun racks.

Found this on the web,too..
Ridgecrest marked the point at which we could finally shed some of our many layers of clothing. At last we were down to jackets and jeans . . . and mostly sunny skies. We could start to hear the call of Panamint Valley, and Death Valley beyond. One hundred miles to go. Even the thought of Trona sounded appealing!

"Welcome to Searles Valley." That's what it says on the sign as you enter Trona. Trona is the home of the Trona Railway. The town is best known for the production of . . . you guessed it . . . Trona. In case you did not know, Trona is the impure mineral form of sodium carbonate. It is the stuff that is left after the water runs off the hills and is left to evaporate, forming the dry lake bed known as Searles Lake. Trona is also the chief component of the dreaded ring-around-the-bathtub, which speaks volumes about the character of the town. The other key factor in determining the nature of the town's environment is the wind. It blows. Some might say, it sucks. Whatever your preference, the movement of a large volume of air, at high speed, over a vast expanse of the powder-fine mineral discussed above serves to create an environment which has inspired the name of the local high school sports teams . . . the Trona Tornadoes. I love going through Trona because it makes everything else in my life seem so much better.

Alas, there's an adult in charge. The website was'nt set up for dopers to talk about sex. I've got something worth telling others 'cause I've come to Trona recently and bought a house. I'm 59 years old not 15 and I really do care about who lives here and those thinking of re-locating here. I'm not here to spam this site. I'm no troll. Someday, hopefully, you'll be my age. You'll have a wife and kids and a career. You'll know by then that life is'nt pushing plastic buttons on a keyboard.

Suspected arsonist of Trona fire held on $50,000 bail

Tuesday, April 5, 2005 3:52 PM PDT

A 48-year-old Trona woman was arrested on an arson charge early Saturday morning after allegedly torching an inhabited structure in the Searles Valley.

Trona authorities reported Monday that the motive of the arson is still under investigation. The habitation, located on the 12200 block of B Street, was a total loss.

Trona Resident Debby Coleen Hardwick is believed to have set the fire, which began at approximately 12:10 a.m. Saturday, according to the preliminary results of the investigation provided by San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Cpl. Tim Lotspeich.

"No one was injured," said Lotspeich. "But we are looking for additional evidence or witnesses to help in the investigation."

Hardwick currently is being held at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's West Valley Detention Center, with a bail set at $50,000.

"Anybody with additional information regarding this arson or any other arsons in Trona is encouraged to contact Detective Kenneth Wolf at SBCSD Bombs and Arson Division at (909) 890-4849, or the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Trona Substation at 372-4096," said Lotspeich.

I am outraged over this sight I just found on the web looking for jobs for my son. Whoever has designed this site needs to be ashamed of themselves for misrepresenting our town. We are not idiots to know that our town is not the paradise spot on the earth. I believe it is fair to say that whoever you are, you have LIED about our town and have NOT reperesented our town of Trona fairly. We have lived in Trona for over 28 years and Trona has been very good to our family. We just returned from a trip from Texas and I must say I was very glad to get back home to our little town. Many, many, many, many, many, many VERY GOOD PEOPLE live here and it is a sincere shame you have not associated with any of them..........obviously! Should I say that God's word says "evil companions corrupt good morals, and it is very EASY to see that you have not had the good fortune of taking the time to find good citizens to associate with! I feel very sorry for you! Take some truthful pics of our town and properly represent it........Because YOU sir are NOT a man of INTEGRITY!

Posted by: PATTI at April 8, 2005 02:46 AM

Say Patti.. You like your town, that's fine. But you need to take a look at it from us outsider's view. Those pictures are real and that's what we see driving through. -a miserable ghetto, a garbage dump, a lowlife slum.. If you want it to be seen different, go get a rake, weed whacker, bulldozer, dynamite, and some abstinance education for the inbreds around there and get t it.

Spouting little goody-goody bable verses ain't gonna cut it.

Happies from the cleaner world out here,

Here's the problem in a nutshell. There's no explanation given to outsiders by the locals for the burned and vandalized homes which litter Trona. That explains websites like this. The scene is'nt picturesque. Arson, burglary and dope are Trona's biggest problems. Thank God we're got extremely good law enforcement. Rid Trona of creeps like this and the town will triple in size. Businesses will come back, property values will rise and Trona will become the beautiful town it once was.
Trona duo arrested for burglary

Thursday, April 7, 2005 12:42 PM PDT

Two Trona residents were booked on suspicion of residential burglary Tuesday morning, after a tip from a witness led to their capture.

At approximately 9 a.m., Cpl. Tim Lotspeich of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department reported to the 13300 block of Mariposa Street after a 911 call from a concerned resident alerting of a burglary in progress.

Minutes after the call, Lotspeich arrived on the scene but the suspects had fled.

"An alert citizen provided a description of the suspect's vehicle," said Lotspeich Wednesday. "During the investigation, deputies located the suspect's vehicle at Kendall's residence."

Michelle Rene Kendall, 37, and Eugene Benjamin Gomez, 27, were both found at the location, along with $4000 in stolen goods believed to have originated from the Mariposa Street residence.

Gomez is currently incarcerated with a bail set at $25,000. Kendall is being held without bail due to a violation of probation.

This is truly laughable! Where are you coming from???????? Also, you don't know what anyone in this community has done with their properties. How do you know what Trona residents have done with our homes. But, as usual, those who gripe about it the most have never even picked up a rake themselves!!!!!!!!!! And yes, I will continue to use scripture and I will be praying for you..........IRONBAR!

I bought a house here in 2003 for $24,000. My first day here the local drug dealer introduced himself. My second day here something was stolen off my front porch. I spent $2,600 to have Valley Fencing put a 6' steel fence with locking gate around my property to keep out the dopers. Then another $1,200 for an 800lb steel safe purchased from the Gun Shop in Ridgecrest. Then another $1,000 to have Home Depot install steel security doors. Figure another $2,500 for steel burglar-bars on all eight of my windows. Plus another $5,000 to have Campbell Heating in Ridgecrest put a heater in my house and new air conditioning. Figure another $10,000 for a new roof, stucco repair and house re-painting. These Trona houses sell for next to nothing, but know what you're getting into.

The Creator of this website is right up on top of the list of reasons this town and towns like it are popping up all over this country. Quick to point and snicker and accuse all it's residents of
being drug addicted redneck backward types which holds no truth to facts of the matter. Let me offer a suggestion, either move away or get off your lazy ass and help clean up the community. If the only effort you care to apply to the current condition is to further tear the place down then you are as guilty as the rest of the vandals that set in motion the deteriation process. It wasn't difficult to find pictures to back up your story since you chose to provide the worst you could offer.
Perhaps this site was spawned from the author after a period of drug induced mania followed by the negitive effects of 'coming down'. Instead of doing anything positive, chose to blame everyone else for the conditions of the enviroment around him. More often than not, this is the case.
It is true that drugs play a part in the conditions here as the parents of the local vandals are mostly too whacked out to care what thier children are doing while they getting high. So Mr.Negitive you now have an option, move or get off your lazy drug induced stupor, clean up your property and the surrounding neighborhood then ask the seniors living in this town if you can offer them any assistance. Volenteer to the local Fire Department, offer to drive the seniors to out of town Doctor appointments and shopping trips there is so much oppurtunity to do something positive for Trona. You will never see it until you get out of your destructive habits in that downward spiral that has taken you to the pit of lazy do-nothing-but-bitch continuance of existance you call life.
A 25 year resident of Argus.

How the tweekers dont burn it someday
Gonna fence it in with razor wire
Because I dont want a big nasty fire

Gonna build a brick wall

Buy shotguns, and ammo
and a gallon of mace

When those tweekers come by
with arson in thier eye
I will protect my little home
Will have my dog
bury them like a bone

And when I lay some pipe
I am sure it will be with a Trona dyke
Gonna leave town, because of the fuss
Go to join Charlie in the bus

Trona with a dirt football field
Little brown crack baby
is what my whore will yeild
Gonna make hims a football star
gonna make him play on the dirt field

With this I will say
I hope that someday
the barbed wire i put up today
will keep those little tweeking
drug addicted arsonists away

you got a problem big d?

Posted by: francine at April 11, 2005 02:39 AM

I can give more reasons to live in Trona than not to live in it. One of the biggest problems is the town's full of hicks. So,like, newcomers to Trona say oh my gawd it looks like a war zone here and the hicks respond "I don't see nuthin wrong".

Posted by: Fred at April 11, 2005 05:56 PM

Here's a good example. Couple months ago, local newspaper headlines published a story of an old goat Trona preacher busted for having oral sex with a 14 year old girl from his congregation. I spoke with a local woman about this. She assured me the relationship was perfectly normal. "Don't be judgemental",she said.

Posted by: Fred at April 11, 2005 06:02 PM

Francine, I respect your attitude. -No excuses, just constructive action.

I hope it becomes contagious out there. I live in a backwater too, and it all comes down to deciding if you want to live in a better place then going after the blight and criminal activity.

First, run the druggies out. Stay on the S.B.Sheriff's asses until they listen! Use the DEA and go after the meth labs. Get the local cops to make life harder on the riffraff and they'll go elsewhere.

Do you have a town council? Use the State and County govt. to help you get the town looking like someplace someone would do business in. It takes money and sweat.

Sadly, most people do not have the cajones to fight the bad element. Most Senior Citizens stay indoors and pretend all's well. Here's to ya Francine! I'll see what you and Fred have done in a few years when next I pass through town.

Posted by: Big D at April 15, 2005 01:30 PM

Ironbar's got it right. But the situation is more complicated than appears at first sight. There's an entrenched 'second government' in Trona and likely in the other tiny, desert towns. Think a bunch of gossip queens/kings. Think an incestuous network of people who prey upon newcomers. Beware of contractors in Trona and Ridgecrest. It's all about making money from selling Trona's dirtbag homes. Buy a home for $24,000 like I did and you'll spend $30,000 trying to have it fixed up. It's worth your time to pay another $3,000 and have an Orange County contractor come out here and make your Trona house liveable. A leaky faucet cost me $560 from a Trona contractor. A root cleaned from a pipe cost me $800 from a Trona contractor. And I just paid $5,000 for a Ridgecrest contractor to leave my house looking like an abortion. These people out here, they got a good scam going. You're out in the middle of nowhere,Bubba. When you buy a crapola house in Trona. There's a whole town here of people from Oklahoma and Missouri slamming it to the tourists. What we need here is the government to condemn the whole town. Throw everyone out, bulldoze it and start again.

Posted by: Fred at April 15, 2005 07:06 PM

Well after reading everyones thoughts of Trona I can't help but agree with everyone. I lived in Trona for the first 18 years of my life and finally got away a year ago...although my little bit of family still live there. After being away from Trona awhile I look at it as somewhat of a Twilight Zone...it's deffinatly unique and I don't think there is another place in the world like it. I can also say though that I like the people and town alot better there then out here in Oakes, ND. Maybe it's just cause I was raised there and around the people. I agree with my cousin Brian and his comment....after being away for awhile...I definatly miss it. The towns biggest problem is Drugs...and not so much pot anymore...all the kids are into meth and it's sad to see. I know cause got into using meth about a year before I moved....Now that I am away and clean I don't understand how kids can throw there life away like that. Maybe one day Trona can become a better place...But don't hold you breathe. ~Jasmine Jones- Thigpen~

People are trying,Jasmine. There's a new element buying homes in Trona. Older retirees like me,mostly. And we really do understand the situation. I've lived here two years now and have pumped $50,000 into the town. And I'm just beginning. We like Trona for it's remotness,it's primative, savage beauty. But the residents here, the old timers..they've got to dump the small town mindset and get real, fast. I'm glad that I came here. I have heart disease and won't live long. But by the time I croak I will have given Trona new life. A future. It'd be a good time to buy property here, now. Within several years, property values will go thru the roof.

The little SOB 13 year old kid who did the arson is in juvenile hall now, busted by Trona's top cop Corporal Tim Lotspeich. Figure the brat's parents are white trash. Or black or brown trash. But it's generally white kids who do this. I figgur mom & pop live in Argus, meth freaks. Only a matter of time before people are burned horrifically or killed by these arson fires.

Posted by: eric at April 30, 2005 12:37 AM

Eric has apoint, so valid it just cant be left alone.
We the citizenery CANNOT go out and stop a criminal without risk of jailtime!
If we see some punk spraying graffitti on a wall of someones home, we cannot gou out and beat the punk into submission, if we know the guy down the street is selling drugs (due to car traffic, types of people showing up, and hours of the day)--if we go over and beat thier head in, drag them outside and raze the house, we will never see the light of day again.

The Border situation, the Minitemen--everyone is in a huff--yet, if these guys were allowed to operate without some legal type hovering over them, the flow of illegal ailiens would come to a screeching halt!

Drugs are destroying the USA, we have troops in Afghanastan, for the past few years now, and yet we ALLOW them to sell the crops of Opium..........INSANE!!!!!!!!!!

Its time to let the citizens again have the freedom to go out and kick the shit out of the criminals, if the cops cant do it-then the people sure as hell can!!!!

Trona men arrested on theft, drug possession

Tuesday, May 3, 2005 1:06 PM PDT

Two men were arrested Sunday night by Trona authorities after more than $1,200 in stolen property was found in their possession, and more than 8 grams of suspected methamphetamines were retrieved from one of the suspects' clothing.

James Ryan Hayes, 18, and Larry Jay Hardwick, 27, were charged for possession of stolen property.

At approximately 9 p.m., Cpl. Tim Lotspeich of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department responded to a burglary call from a homeowner in the vicinity of the intersection of Wildrose Street and Telescope Avenue.

After investigating the residence, Lotspeich discovered that the suspects had forced entry and seized change and electronic equipment, totaling $1,240.

While searching for evidence outside the burglarized property, Lotspeich found Hayes and Hardwick in a nearby vacant property with the missing loot.

Both suspects were charged for possession of stolen property and booked at the Barstow Jail. Hayes was charged with an additional charge of possession of methamphetamine, with a bail amount set at $15,000. Hardwick, who was on felony probation at the time of the arrest, is being held without bail. The case remains under investigation and is being reviewed by the Barstow District Attorney's office.

Another local bust of loser meth freaks.
Police arrest two on numerous drug charges

Friday, May 6, 2005 1:04 PM PDT

A successful meth freak loser drug bust early Tuesday in midtown Ridgecrest resulted in the arrest of two and the seizure of illegal drugs and related paraphernalia.

Patricia Jean Keith and Frank Javier Ortiz, two local scumsucks with criminal histories dating back to 1943, were arrested Tuesday morning on a series of drug related charges after a months-long Ridgecrest Police Department investigation.

Assisted by personnel from Kern County Sheriff's Department and Bureau of Land Management, RPD Dets. Justin Dampier and Jed McLaughlin executed a search warrant on the suspects' residence on the 200 block of North Robalo Street for suspected drug sales.

A search of the premises revealed that the duo possessed approximately two ounces of methamphetamine packaged in over 40 plastic baggies, and a small amount of marijuana, along with drug-related paraphernalia such as scales and glass pipes.

Both Keith, 39, and Ortiz, 41, later were determined to be under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the arrest in other words higher than a kite and psycho, according to Dampier.

Both suspects were transported to Kern County Jail; Keith's bail was set at $21,770 and Ortiz is being held without bail due to an active probation.

While Keith's criminal background includes a misdemeanor history dating back to 1993, which climaxed in 2002 with three drug-related felony charges that were later dismissed, Ortiz served 100 days in a Kern jail for stolen property and possession of ammunition by a felon, according to an Online search with the Kern County Superior Court. Obviously, these were innocent choireboys.

Trona isn't as bad as all these people say it is. Most of the people there are smarter than the rest of us. They move there, let it look bad to keep all the gang trash out of there. It is all about reverse psychology. Shit...If you make a place look good, then jerk off architects and big businesses come in and destroy the environment with their strip malls. Then the Los Angeles trash moves it and destroys it with their graffiti. The good people of Trona were smart enough to figure it out. Also most of them are hard working men who are too tired to mess with yard work when they come home. As far as tweekers, well look at the rest of the cities in California, I don't think the ratio is any higher per population in Trona than anywhere else. I don't even live in Trona, but I do know it has a lot of possitives that match the negatives that small minded jerks that are putting it down are to blind to see. For you Fred...if it is so bad, why do you live there? Hmmmmm....there we go with some real BRAINS. FYI...the stench everyone smells when the come to town...That's Fred's underwear hanging out for their weekly waterless laundering.

Posted by: Eric's Sister at May 7, 2005 01:06 AM

There's several problems, here. Dopers and other assorted braindead losers are at the top of the list. Add to that the typical small town mentality. I call what we have here the 'second government'. Beneath the surface here is a boiling cauldron of gossip. You're either part of the in crowd or the out crowd according to who you know. The thing can be immensely cruel and ignorant. You see this ignorance, this self-protectionism happening on this forum. These so-called old timers here buried their heads in the sand while their town rotted and websites like this one sprang up. Now they're upset because people are speaking out, saying the obvious. Tourists drive past Trona every day. Rarely do they stop. Who would blame them? It looks like a bunch of morons live here. For gawdsakes, bulldoze the burned apartment building next to the Pinnacle motel. Bulldoze all the burned down homes caused by arson fires. Haul the junk away. And get the kids together in the high school auditorium. Right there's a big part of Trona's drug and arson problem. Talk to the kids. Lay it on the line.

Fred, do you realize how STUPID you look and sound. are you trying to get a check for being mentally confused? Pay ATTENTION Fred (theres gonna be a quiz) you dont like trona (right) well fred it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. what do you do when you dont like something?come on fred i know you know the answer. its an easy one. i think even tweekers know the answer to this one. come on fred. Times up! the answer to the question is... GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!!!

Posted by: long time resident at May 7, 2005 02:19 PM

No,it's not that. I like Trona. It's just that a large proportion of the town are certifiably insane. The burned and abandoned homes here are boarded-up with plywood. It's my job to go around with a 5 lb bag of nails and hammer to re-attach the plywood after it's been torn off by high school aged Trona tweakers. The Trona dope addict kids' idea of a classy time is to go into the decrepit buildings to have sex. Those meth freak girls get slammed while cozying-up to black widow spiders, rats and cockroaches. This tells me that Tronian girls & boys are afflicted with every venereal disease known to humanity. By the way. One of Trona's 80+ year old church preachers who recently made the front page of the Daily Independent for having oral sex with a 14 year old female member of his congregation has been invited back to the church by his Trona congregation. All is forgiven. You tell me that's not the Twilight Zone. You people need to be herded up like cattle and branded as sickos.

Posted by: Fred at May 7, 2005 04:59 PM

fred i will agree with you on that church that is sick they should cut the nuts off that bastard and put them in his mouth there is no room in this town for pedifiles.or child abusers thats why some of the houses are burned down.

Posted by: eric at May 7, 2005 05:39 PM

It astounded me that the Trona congregation invited him back to the church. That's not Christian forgiveness. If that were my daughter he had oral sex with I absolutely guarentee you he'd be buried somewhere in the desert, not standing behind a pulpit. All these tiny Mojave Desert towns have creepy religious cults. The desert attracts all kinds. People like me who comprehend and enjoy the often-savage beauty of this place. And others alienated from society who come here and go quietly insane. It was no coincidence that Charles Manson and his girls found Trona.

Posted by: Fred at May 7, 2005 06:16 PM

And something else. Last Christmas I picked cards off the fake tree at the credit bureau and donated well over $1,000 in money and toys to Trona's children thru the COPS group. I think Audrey runs the thing. You kids out there got brand new bicycles and everything else I could buy in a flurry of shopping. Neat stuff and I mean REALLY neat stuff. I found out recently that I was the biggest donater. Oh come on. There's people here with more money than me. I hope you're reading this you cheap bastids who could give but never do. If you're too cheap to help the kids here than don't bitch when your home gets torched or burglarized.

Posted by: Fred at May 7, 2005 06:24 PM

And more. Yes,it is me you see digging in the sagebrush field next to the Trona rest stop. I've spent almost every day for eighteen months there. What I'm doing is excavating Trona's history dating back well into the 1800s thru to the 1920s. The things I've found belong in the Trona Museum so that all of you can see and enjoy them. I've offered to donate my found artifacts to the museum but my offer was turned down. Here again I think it's the small-town protectionism I'm faced with. An outsider comes to town, uncovers such things of beauty and historical significance. We can't allow this, can we. I don't have time for these games. Arzel Hale knows what I've been excavating. Tim Lotspeich, too. And Christine, head honchess of the Ridgecrest Boys & Girls Club to which I've willed half a million dollars to help the local children. And the Chief of Police of Ridgecrest. What I have found buried in that sagebrush field would bring tears to your eyes. The history, daily lives of the people who've lived here. They died long ago. Only the lovely artifacts remain. I am rescueing them from the ravages of time, from certain destruction. For you people. But I cannot find a single one among you who's interested in this.

Posted by: Fred at May 7, 2005 06:56 PM

This is only one of the antique Trona bottles I've excavated from the sagebrush field. The bottle is embossed 'Hamlin's Wizard Oil'
The peer of Healy and Bigelow ventures, in commerce if not in showmanship, were the troupes traveling to boost the sale of Hamlin's Wizard Oil. John Austen Hamlin, the founding father, had been a magician pure and simple, according to legend, until he discovered that the take was greater when he used his prestidigitation to promote a liniment. Magic there was for sure in the name Wizard Oil, which he affixed to the remedy he vended. Moving from Cincinnati to Chicago during the Civil War, Hamlin built up his product to one of the best-known liniments in America. In doing so, he rather forsook magic for music [8].

Hamlin's emissaries sang for their sales. Touring the highways and byways of the country were numerous troupes, each made up of a lecturer, a driver, and a male quartet. The group traveled in a special wagon, pulled by a four- or six-horse team, into which was built a parlor organ. The wagon, in the torch-lit evening, became a stage, from which the quartet sang and played. A stylish sight they were, clad in silk top hats, frock coats, pinstriped trousers, and patent leather shoes-with spats. At times the assembled audience sang with them. One of Hamlin's stunts was the lavish distribution of pamphlets in which the words of such songs as "I'se Gettin' Up a 'Watermelon Party" and "Is Life Worth Living?" were interspersed with promises as to how Wizard Oil could grapple with asthma and neuralgia. These song books were carried into thousands of homes. During the week or more that a troupe stayed in a town, the members were busy during the day as well as at night. While the lecturer sought to place supplies of Hamlin's liniment with local drug-gists, the quartet displayed their talents for church and charity groups.

Hamlin, a man of substance in Chicago, fittingly spent some of his Magic Oil income, soon after the great fire, to build an opera house that bore his name.

I actually grew up in Trona and can tell you the unbiased facts about the place. Up until about the late 1980s Trona was a great place to live. The company stopped giving to the community and everything went into the dumps. I recently moved to Ridgecrest after several years abroad and I do not like to go to Trona now. It is very depressing to see it now compared to what I remember as a kid in the 80s. There are still some very good people in that town and some nice homes. As the town has gone into the dumps there has been a massive rise in "white trash", or I should say trash of all colors. A very high incidence of drug use and meth labs. When I was a kid it was a quiet, fun, spirited, and safe place to grow up. But after speaking to several residents about the community in the last few years, I would never allow my kids to grow up there. My parents knew all the other parents and trusted the other children not to do me harm or give me illegal drugs. The first time I was ever exposed to marijuana was when I was 18 years old. Now, kids have exposure to that as young as 10 years old and also have exposure to drugs that are much worse. When you have absolutely nothing to do, you do bad things. When I was a kid we had the pool, movie theater, a few decent restaurants, places to play up-to-date video games, several gas stations, and convenience stores. The kids would get together and go ride bikes and have lots of unstructured fun. Now when you drive through Trona you usually see strange people walking the roads instead of kids playing. There are drug attics and felons in every community, but unfortunately in Trona you will see a higher instance of both per capita. Most families I knew as a kid moved to Ridgecrest or farther away because of these reasons. Ridgecrest is not much better, but there are much more things for kids to do. I would have to say at least half of the people that I went to school with and that still live in Trona have either been in trouble with the law, in rehab, are currently on drugs, or currently have at least one child in some kind of trouble. There was a lot of innocence in the town when I was there. Now you have people coming from larger towns like LA because their families are on welfare. The influence that these kids have on the regular residents has really caused problems. You have young girls getting pregnant, and much more peer pressure to engage in drugs, sex and crime. Most kids didn't have their first kiss until their teens. I hear of so many kids having sex at much younger ages.

On a brighter side, there are still some great families, and teachers in the Trona community. There are many people I enjoy visiting with when I do go there. The recent owners of the industry in Trona are only out for a profit. They come in, take what they can, and then sell the company and they never give anything back to the community. When I was a kid, the teachers were well-paid, the community was fun, and there was no other place that myself or my family would have rather been. We had softball games out at the pool where parents would play and bring their kids to hang out and watch the games. They had fireworks shows at the pool every year during 4th of July. They had a great company sponsored picnic every year that the entire town would turn out for. I remember at Christmas the firetruck would go around town with Santa giving out candy. I remember riding around town in the back of a truck singing Christmas carols. During homecoming the kids would have massive car rally's and drive the entire community and honk their horns while the resident sat on their porch and waved. The town treated every high-school football game like it was the NFL playoffs. We had large competitive sports teams where now they can hardly find anyone to play. Little league baseball was huge growing up. There were several teams for every age group. I could not imagine growing up in a town without those things. I know that my kids deserve to have at least as good of an upbringing as I had. When it comes down to it, I hate driving down the street I used to live on in Pioneer Point and seeing only maybe 3 of the 20 houses on that street not boarded up or vandalized. It is so sad.......

Posted by: Past Resident at May 7, 2005 07:43 PM

I reread some of the posts before mine and decided to clarify my last post. I hope I did not offend anyone. That is the last thing I wanted. I certainly don't want to be involved in the spats that I read above. I was mainly putting in my point of view about good and the bad that I have observed. For most who see Trona now for the first time, it is hard to imagine what it once was. The negative information is what I have read in the paper and first hand accounts by current residents. I do know that there are many great people in Trona who do their best to make their community a good one. I just believe that over the years the many plant owners and influx of welfare recipients (who have no desire to get off it) have made it harder on the community. Don't get me wrong, welfare is a good program if it is used to get someone back on their feet, but no one should make a career out of it. Hopefully a good company will come into town and help try to bring the town back to it's former glory.

Thank you. That was a breath of fresh air. I know Trona was once a beautiful place from the artifacts I've excavated in the sagebrush field. There was a time when every home in Trona was filled with Depression glass,Vaseline glass,Carnival glass in all the colours of the rainbow. From what I've dug up I know the clothing worn by people in Trona from 1890 thru the 1930s. Their shoes, pants, belts, suspenders. Their eyeglasses, pocket watches, jewelry. The toys children played with and so many other things, aspects of life. Trona was properous, once. The people here lived in style. I think the chemical company does'nt involve itself in community affairs because we're become a sue-happy society. If the swimming pool was still open
the company would be sued every time some Welfare nut stubbed his toe. Creeps today out to make a fast buck thru a lawyer look for 'deep pockets'. The only deep pockets around here is the chemical company. That said,I know Trona's heading towards better days. There's an amazing mostly-unrecognized potential here in Trona. You can buy an old home out here for $7,000,put $20,000 into fixing it up like new and immediatly re-sell it for $50,000. Let's say you're a retiree. You sell your home in Orange County,Los Angeles, etc for several hundred thousand dollars. That means you can buy a home here for $50,000 or less, put the rest of the money in Morgan Stanley, etc and retire here living on the income for the rest of your life. That is one heck of a deal! I love the fact that Trona's isolated. The desert, mountains and weather will add years to your lifespan. There's tons of stuff to do out here. Go trout fishing, rock hounding, look for indian arrowheads. I've lived here two years now. And hav'nt been bored for even one minute.

The Tronians angry at this website upset me. Have you people lost your sense of humor? Websites like this should be viewed as a gift for they inform you what the outside-world thinks when they see this town for the first time. You'd have to pay a professional marketing expert for this insight. But no,you get defensive.

Posted by: Fred at May 8, 2005 07:00 PM

fred im not mad at the website or you its good to see that people still care about trona and what others think im glad you try to help but you just cant say every body in trona or argus are trash .thats defeats your purpose you cant bring this town back alone it will take argus trona pioneer point and ridegcrest working together .what this town needs the most is RESPECT from each other.

Posted by: eric at May 9, 2005 12:52 AM

What it needs is honesty. Respect is earned not handed out like a box of candy. It's logical that websites like this one exist. Many thousands of people drive past Trona every year to and from Death Valley. I know what they're thinking because I was one of those people two years ago. There's a conspiracy of silence, here. The moment one starts asking questions,he'll run into a brick wall of small-town protectionism. One thing's true. Trona's long been a dumping-ground for human trash. Probably, primarily from Bakersfield and San Bernardino. I've seen people and situations here that turned my hair white. The best thing Trona's got going for it right now is Connie Courto's TronaCare group and the best law enforcement I've ever seen thanks to Corporal Tim Lotspeich.

Posted by: Fred at May 9, 2005 12:19 PM

A question, eric. You posted here on March 30 at 8:19pm about Trona that "If you needed help the tweekers would help you". I read that and instantly tagged you as a doper, because who else would say it? What help would I ask a tweeker for? Turn me on to his dealer? A good lawyer? Bail bondsman advice? How not to get sodomized behind bars? Where to buy a really good meth pipe? I would'nt ask a tweeker for water if my ass was on fire. Tweekers are mentally ill. And dont't you just love these cute names for drugs & dopers. Tweeker, angel dust, orange sunshine, etc. How about psycho, loser, crap for brains, punk. I'll do every thing I can to throw every meth addict and pusher within a hundred mile radius of Trona into State Prison to share a cell with Bubba, who likes little doper boys. A lot.

Posted by: Fred at May 9, 2005 06:38 PM

fred there are some kids that have been getting hooked on meth, ive known them when they were little its sad that they really dont know what they are getting into. but this is the real problem your cops which are good guys, are not doing their jobs right. those punks are hooking more kids everyday while the cops watch. why dont they get them off the streets the cops know who they are but yet they let them walk, and spread their diease this is the problem, half these people need to be put in a group home, or in some kind of program.

Posted by: eric at May 9, 2005 08:29 PM

I've neard from various local sources that a big part of Trona's crime problem resulted from poor law enforcement years ago. I believ that. I don't want to say too much on a public forum but things now are not like they used to be. Of benefit to the good people in Trona and law enforcement is the doper mindset. I should know because thirty five years ago I was in the drug scene up to my neck. Finnally grew a brain, got out of it and cleaned up my life. So I know exactly how dopers think. They think they're invisible. They think the good people in Trona are a bunch of stupid old fools. They think the cops here are dumb hicks. That's wonderful. We want them to keep thinking that. That and the fact their brains are screwed up on dope makes them so easy to catch they're being arrested in droves. You've been reading of these arrests recently in numerous articles in the Daily Independent. There'll be a lot more arrests coming, more articles.

Posted by: Fred at May 10, 2005 10:41 AM

i have lived here my whole life. i am 29 years old . trona has changed for the worse. when i was growing up, trona was a very cool place to live. it was safe. the people looked out for eachother

Posted by: lucy at May 11, 2005 12:46 AM

I lived in the North Tustin/Lemon Heights area of Orange County before I came to Trona, two years ago. We had a neighborhood watch program. The neighbors got together, shared names, phone numbers and other information. We can't do that in Trona because of all the druggie homes. I'm looking out my window right now at a doper house. There's another one on the street next to mine. And I suspect another one or two near me. Four doper homes within 200 or so yards. I never drive at night here because that's when most of the activity takes place. I suspect that a lot of the vehical accidents we have here are due to stoned drivers. Recently,a meth lab was busted a stone's throw from my house. I found a glass meth pipe in my front yard a couple months ago. Meth's a nasty drug. It causes permanent brain damage. You see someone who was into meth bigtime ten years ago and quit,he/she's still freaked out. Good way to stop kids from ever using meth is to show them before & after photos of meth addicts.

Posted by: Fred at May 11, 2005 11:17 AM

Here's some winner homes for sale in Trona. These are bought at tax sales for nada, given a coat of paint and sold to suckers. The way I'd do this is buy the junk heap, put $20,000 into making it into a nice, normal house where normal people (not losers/dopers) would want to live and selling it at a good profit. This means Trona gets decent, normal people moving in here who've got money, will greatly contribute to the community, have pride in their homes/yards,etc. You see any homes here you'd buy and move into? We don't need slumlord opportunists here out to make a fast buck and to hell with Trona. http://coseda.com/lihous/ownhome.html

Trona felon arrested

Trona is a very nice town. I have lived here for years. It is sad that the poor boy had to go to jail for hitting a person who has been selling pot to kids for years.

Posted by: Bill at May 15, 2005 02:00 AM

The poor boy will have plenty of time to think about it while Bubba's banging him 24/7 in State Prison. I'd watch that eating popcorn and cheering.

Posted by: Fred at May 15, 2005 06:03 PM

I was not going to bother with comments on this website, but have gone against my own judgement. I am not going to dispute with those who have issues... I wanted to simply say a few things. I moved to Trona about fifteen years ago. I was not sent by welfare, nor anyone else. I knew friends here, and needed a new beginning. Trona has been so very generous and good to me. I have met wonderful people, and have made life long friends. I knew the area somewhat, and now being an active member/friend here, I regret nothing. The desert is a beautiful place to be. You can find ugly in anything, but it takes a moment or two to see beauty. I am sorry Fred, that you have not found that yet. Trona does have those people, and those places. Don't give up on a place that has so much to offer. Honestly if you get involved, even in the smallest way, You will find there are very caring and good hearts here, and you might find yourself at "home".

Posted by: lisa at May 16, 2005 02:47 PM

I do love it here. And I have met a number of fine individuals. But there's a surreal atmosphere here. I took notice of that the instant I moved from Orange Couty where I had lived since 1946 to Trona in 2003. I find it laughable that the Tronians throw hissyfits over websites like this one. It's like ostriches hiding their heads in the sand. Like Nero fiddling while Rome burns.

Posted by: Fred at May 17, 2005 11:20 AM

i think that this is very dissrespectful. You may have been through this town but you showed the shitty parts. I do agree that the town isnt really nice. The thing i dont agree with is that u didnt bother looking for the nice and happy parts.Id rather live here then in any big city.

Posted by: Lindsey at May 26, 2005 07:37 PM

I agree. Living in Trona beats big city existence hands-down. The real problem stems from outsiders seeing Trona for the first time, comparing Trona to the communities they left. I'm from Orange County. If Trona were in Orange County a crew of bulldozers would be working 24/7 for a month getting rid of the junked, torched, abandoned so-called houses that attract crime, arson and dopers. Everyone from other communities who drive thru Trona thinks the Tronians are the result of generations of incest. It's they who destroyed their town. That this happened while they sat by sucking their thumbs and now complain about it speaks volumes of them. Let's get Trona cleaned up. Do it now. Do it forcefully, not piecemeal.

I too am a former trona resident. During that time Trona was a real nice place to live. It held safety, serenity and financial security. I think all of you decent, hardworking people should take back your town. Get rid of all the thieves and drug addicts somehow. Even if it means strong arm vigilante tactics. Good luck

The Daily Independent gives good coverage of arrests in Trona. Each one of the numerous articles gives joy to the embattled people of Trona. We refuse having 5% of the town terrorize the other 95%. Do not blame the cops when someone's arrested and hauled to jail. Put the blame where it belongs. On the individual. Parole and probation is the system of justice giving persons convicted of crimes a second chance. These people being arrested ar'nt heros. They're not rocket scientists. They're morons. I hope that message is reaching Trona's criminally-inclined. This is'nt Los Angeles. Trona is a tiny town. It's easy for law enforcement to keep track of what's going on here and who's involved. If you're on parole or probation,if you're using, buying or selling drugs you'd better be aware that law enforcement knows about you,is keeping a close eye on you. If you really want to clean up Trona then emphasize the values of common sense, personal responsibility, maturity and yes, shame. I'm talking especially to all you meth freaks out there that think you're cool. There's a real need for anger management and problem-solving techniques training for persons in Trona who keep getting into trouble with the law. If you find yourself in a jail cell, ask yourself how you got there. And every time the thought crosses your mind to blame someone else for your predicament, slap yourself hard. I hope Glenn Vassar's doing that right now. Because it's the only hope he'll ever have of living a full, happy life.

Posted by: Fred at May 30, 2005 10:06 AM

And when you thought it could'nt get worse, along comes this. This was placed on every home in Trona on May 27,2005. It's now May 30 and our water's apparently still full of cooties. Trona's Rite Value Market quickly sold out of bottled water. These situations occure. But why has'nt bottled water been provided to Trona residents by the government local or state? If not to the rich and middle class,to the poor?
Este informe contiene informacion muy importante sobre su agua potable
Failure to follow this advisory could result in stomach or intestinal illness.
Due to recent bacterial sampling results, the California Department of Health Services and the Searles Domestic Water Company are advising residents of Trona to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution.
This will force a decision from Trona's mom & pop meth addicts whether to buy bottled water for their kids or score some meth. My bet's on the meth.

Dearest fred ,welcome to trona, i myself am recently returning to the area or shithole as i refer to it.i've read your recent comments about mr. vassar , i found them poorly informed most likely from reading the daily insufficient. i've personally read the charges aginst glenn you may be intrested to know that the deadly weapon he used was his fist. You see he dosen't need to use a weapon he never has . the problem is just one officer can't take him , never have been able to , he's no angel i'm the first to admit it. nor is he a homosexual as you implied (no doubt you're more than likely one of the recent plague of homos to infest this community)but we stray from the topic . you see we come from a very large family related to most of trona in one way or another hellm i'm the only one that carries a sidearm... but agian i stray ,im his brother if you have any questions you would like a response to as far as my family members go maybe you should go to a better source than a 50cent piece of dribble so if you have any questions here's your chance to defend your point of view but at the very least be more properly informed before you start casting insults , lies , or wreckless rumors that may have consequences any futher about my family may be diected to me .
And thank you D.W.

Oh that's easy to answer. I was a jailbird thirty five years ago. Arrested numerous times. My parents always bailed me out, paid for my lawyers, spoke out in my defense. Tbey were idiots. They wer'nt helping me. They enabled me to stay a boy,to never grow up. I finnally grew up but it was ten times harder than if they had at least once let me take full responsibility for my actions and decisions. Having spent a long time behind bars and read your commentary,it's my bet Glenn's got a long, hard road ahead for him. You're proud that he's good with his fists and can beat up police officers. That says it all right there. Amazing.

Here's a good website for repeat offenders convicted of felony ADW http://www.threestrikes.org/

Posted by: Fred at May 31, 2005 01:02 PM

im not making excuses for glenn , he managed to take a minor asualt offence and turn it into a felony that may end with him in jail for a long time. thats just ignorence in judgement ,and yes im proud we raised him not to baqcck down from anything or anyone who would try to hurt him or his beliefs. The dope dealer he assulted was at glenns home 4 times that day but Trona's top cop dont see him threatening glenn as a problem but when the home owner tries to protect his home than he's in the wrong .Your beloved three-strikes law is the most abused law on the books to date the D.A.'s office refuses to investigate alledged crimes and the public pretenders office making 50dollars per case could give a damn about their clients . three-strikes told people they would be safe by putting violent criminals away for life is that the rite move i mean if the penal system hasn't got it right in 2 tries we should give them 25 years to try again on our dime bull shit. filth such as drug dealers in this town should be prosecuted for dealing to uninformed children who willingly purchase narcotics but our top cops manage to miss them i mean i dont see as many of their successful drug busts as i should letting these people carry on hoping they will systematicly kill themselves off why dont they get off their ever widening asses and stop them and put them awAy for life too much work i guess the 13 year old you mentioned setting fires why didnt his accoplases do time they get away with it and two months later one of them kill somebody in an automobile accident now your probly saying th same thing i did 1 less pos but he ment somthing to somone and yet she goes unprosecuted why i think that would qualify more as a violent crime than shop lifting or evading arrest

Posted by: duane at May 31, 2005 01:44 PM

I agree with you on much of that. The three strikes law has been abused,in my opinion. People going to prison for many years for stealing cookies, etc. I'm thirty years older than you and like Glenn, was facing prison. I finnally grew a brain. Tough is'nt solving problems with fists. The Hispanics who run the Texaco station, they're tough. So too the folks who run the Rite Value Market and the Pioneer Point store. Arzel who runs the chemical plant is one of the toughest guys I've ever met. It takes a tough man or woman to make it thru life. It's tough to hold down a job,to kiss the boss's ass. It's tough to pay the rent, raise kids, keep a family together. And not a bit of this kind of toughness has anything to do with fists. And by the way,a fist can be a deadly weapon. I've been beaten unconscious, nose smashed and laying in a pool of blood. This is'nt high school out here. It's the real world. I hope Glenn's thinking about what he'll do after he's released. Tell him for me that 99.9% of what he hears in prison is BS. The people he's mad at,the cops and the prison guards, they go home when their day's shift is done. I used to think about that a lot while I was behind bars. I hope Glenn makes it thru this and becomes a new man. For his sake and ours'. This whole thing reminds me of martial arts experts. They have it within their power to beat crapola out of anyone, but they don't do it. Why? When Glenn figures out the answer,he's on his way to a better future.

I figure Trona's doper element are reading the posts at this website. I hope so. That was my intent from the beginning. Whether you're busted and sent to Juvenile Hall,County Jail or State Prison,I know how you think because I used to be you. What you're learning here,I hope,is the crimes you do don't just affect you. They affect your families. It does'nt end when the handcuffs go on. No parent,no family wants to see their kid, brother or sister in a newspaper headline. Not like this. No parent wants to go thru the visiting process to talk with their locked-up kid. You people out there who think this whole thing's a joke,I hope you ponder that. If you don't care about yourself, care about your family. What you do impacts them.

To those of you who think there's no fun in Trona, you're wrong. I excavated an antique apothecary bottle with the cork still in it in the sagebrush field this morning. It dates to Trona circa 1914 http://www.multied.com/dates/1914.html

I just bought this 1969 Charles Manson era CD. Acid rock. This is perfect Trona material. The family that plays together. Indeed. Buncha meth-infested incestoids. Best song on here is Aren't You Glad http://rateyourmusic.com/view_album_details/album_id_is_11886

Look,I don't mean to offend. I'm just thinking of me at age ten circa 1956 in the back seat of my parents' Cadillac towing a house trailor thru the California desert. Going from Orange County into the vast desert wastes was like going from heaven to hell. My parents would switch on the push buttom AM radio and in would come whacko to the max religious radio stations from Hooterville. I'm looking out the window as we pass by signs advertising cultish desert churches like the Holy Sepulcher of Jesus's Dripping Blood. And thinking oh crap I'm doomed, get me out of here. Only fun I had were the signs 'See two-headed coyote,20 miles ahead'. I'd ask dad to stop. He'd reach back and slap me. I'm 59 years old now, dad's dead and I want to see those damn coyotes. Where are they?

I was wrong. The new Trona movie does'nt suck. At the site, click on 'Trona' and other info pops up.
Looks to me like the film dipicts Trona's essence. Ever see the movie U-Turn? There ya go. Everyone in Trona is related and this goes back gawd knows HOW many generations. The human genome here is XFiles stuff. NASA,rather than

What's needed for Trona is some heavy investigative journalism. Start with who's buying junker homes at tax sales in San Bernardino County and using the homes as tax write-offs,never fixing up the homes. So we have these shells of houses that sit there rotting in the sun year after year. You won't have to dig deep to find it's Tronians doing this to their own town. You want to know why Trona looks like crap warmed over? Follow the money trail. Ask a Tronian why does Trona look like the back streets of Tijuana, you'll get a dozen evasive responses. There's a reason why things happen. It's that surreal atmosphere of Trona of nonsensical denial in the face of overwhelming facts that makes a smorgasbord to movie-makers. And should, also,to investigative journalists.

Posted by: Fred at June 5, 2005 03:54 PM

It's not Tronians. It's government. San Bernardino County is huge, encompasses a vastness of communities thruout the Mojave Desert. The reason the county does'nt raze the abandoned homes is because the county uses the derelict homes as a tax base cash stream. The reason why desert towns like Trona are the butt of jokes, websites and even movies will be found at the very heart of San Bernardino County government. County government offers the abandoned, junked homes at tax sales. People buy the homes, use them as tax write-offs,never fix them up. They don't pay taxes on the homes. The homes eventually go on sale again for back taxes. So it's a continuing cash stream for government. That means San Berdoo County government's opinion of desert citizens is they can suck crap thru a straw till hell freezes. Tear down those awful, abandoned, boarded up homes. Raze them. Bulldoze the arson-caused burned homes.

He's way better than you'd think. Today's law enforcement has come a long way since the 1960s. He's as intelligent as God. Any dopers thinking he's a Hooterville hick are digging their own graves. Might as well walk into jail and give up right now. Today's law enforcement resources boggle the mind. And Trona people ARE telling. In droves. The reason dopers are called dopers is because they're dopes. I ought to know. I used to be one, long time ago. You could've fit my brain on the head of a pin, back then. I should've had 'BUST ME' tattooed on my forehead. I was arrested so many times I kept seeing the same jailers. They'd say "Hi,Fred. Welcome back. What's it been,a week since your release?".

75 people detained, 3 arrested at recent Wagon Wheel party

Friday, June 10, 2005 1:20 PM PDT

Linda Saholt/lsaholt@ridgecrestca.com

It cost more than the admission fee people paid to attend a party at Wagon Wheel where 75 people were detained for possession of Ecstasy and Marijuana.

The investigation resulted in three arrests and the event promoter and five event organizers were cited for federal violations.

Danielle Marie La Mothe, 19, of Tustin; Richard Gleason Stierstorfer, 21, of Tustin; and Casey Danielle Owen, 18, of Torrance were arrested for possesion of drugs and booked at the Barstow Jail.

Names of event organizers were not released.

The "Rave Party" was discovered by San Bernardino Sheriff Deputy Tim Lotspeich who was en route to Barstow from Trona to transfer a prisoner.

He radioed for backup and notified the Bureau of Land Management and California Highway Patrol.

Authorities arrested 75 people with possession of a variety of controlled substances, including the drugs "Ecstasy," "Magic Mushrooms," and nitrous gas.

Marijuana packaged for sales was also discovered in the possession of two people.

Attendees were mostly young adults from Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties who had paid admission to the attend the event. Several disc jockeys were providing music, along with a laser light show.

"I got lucky," said Lotspeich. "I was transporting a suspect to jail and I stumbled upon this operation starting up."

In the next hour and a half, the law enforcement team pulled necessary resources together and conducted the operation.

"I liked how we all worked together - federal, state, and county. It was really neat," said Lotspeich.

According to BLM Ridgecrest Field Office Manager Hector Villalobos, law enforcement personnel from BLM have been working cooperatively with sheriff's deputies from San Bernardino and Kern counties as well as other law enforcement agencies to deal with rave parties.

"It's something we've been dealing with on a regular basis," said Villalobos. "This is the tip of the iceberg."

I can see where one would say that Trona is the armpit of hell, I grew up there, and still go back on occasion. In all honesty, Trona is becoming a terrible place to live. Not because of everyone and everything, but because of people who choose to get all doped up and go destroy stuff, burn down houses and then sleep for days. There are alot of good points to living in Trona, as well as there are bad points. And for Fred. you bitch so much about trona.....yet you live there. WHY????

Posted by: kristy at June 13, 2005 10:28 PM

Because I'm an intelligent realist. Problems get solved by confronting them, not wishing they'd go away and throwing hissyfits over websites like this. I wish I had a nickle from every tourist that passes thru Trona, mouth agape in shock at what looks like the aftermath of a riot. A bulldozer and a dump truck would have Trona looking fine in a week. Houses burn down here and they're left sitting there. Forever. We have dozens of long-abandoned,boarded up homes here. Tronians get mad at people from other, normal communities if they say anything about it. That in itself qualifies for an X Files episode. It's not the outsiders who are wierd.

Posted by: Fred at June 14, 2005 10:12 AM

I agree Fred, that they need to start tearing down the old burnt down, abandoned houses. Just that right there I think would help alot of the way Trona looks. I really dont think though, that there are enough people in Trona at this point (either people want to help but cant because of age/medical reasons, or they are too doped up to give a crap) that can do much about it. I know if there were serious people who wanted to get in there and clean that place up I'd be first to voulenteer.

Also I think that Trona definitly needs more cops. Tim Lotspeich, in my opinion, does not do his job very well. I have read your past posts, and I know that you think he does a good job, but personally I do not see it. Trona is such a small town, everyone knows who does the drugs as well as who runs /sells them and where the "gathering" places for them are. So I dont see why Tim Lotspeich doesnt get his butt in gear and bust there dope heads!! Fine example of Trona Sherriffs.....not going to mention names, but someone I know had their house broken into. They went to the Sherriffs office.....no one was there. Thats right no one was there. What if there was a burglary or something? Not only was no one there, but after several more attempts to make contact with an officer, that persons house was broken into 3 more times. When Lotspeich was finally kind enough to respond, he did not come prepared. He didn't have any equipment to take fingerprints, so he took some of this persons personal belongings (which still have not been returned). He treated this individual as if they were the one that committed a crime.

As for the comments about Mr. Glenn Vassar, I personally know him, and he is a good kid. A little misguided (throught no ones fault but his own) but nonetheless he is a good kid and you know, theres nothing he wouldn't do for his friends (if it was in his power of course)

Also I read your post dated May 7, 2005 06:56 PM
I think it is wonderful that you have devoted so much time to helping uncover the history of Trona. And as for not being able to "find a single one among you who's interested in this" well I am :)

Posted by: Kristy at June 15, 2005 12:23 AM

The Vassar case should be upsetting because it involves violence, felony arrest and conviction and probably state prison. Misdemeanor cases mean county jail. I know from my own experiences that it's not easy to get into state prison. You really have to work at it. Tim's been overworked. I heard he recently worked 30 days non-stop. I know it looks easy to bust drug users but there's more involved. If you've got a group of kids using meth, you want to find out who's selling it to them. Bust one kid or ten kids and you'll not solve the problem. You want the adults who're making, transporting and selling the product. You want the supply shut down. Tim may not get credit for it,but the work he does may lead to the arrests of suppliers far beyond Trona. The truth is there's not enough jails to hold all the kids using drugs. I feel sorrow for the dumb little brats in Trona strung out on meth. The book of their lives has already been written. They will forever remain immature while the other kids who don't use dope go on to college, graduation,a career, good marriage, parenting, nice homes, new cars. The doper kids are totally unprepared for what happens after mommy & daddy toss them out of the nest into the real world. If the doper kids knew what's coming it'd wipe the smile off their faces. They're in for a world of hurt.

Trona has enough trouble battling the County, we don't need a forum of misinformation or a tit-for-tat insult contest.
You really don't want to set yourself up as 'holier-than-thou'.This isn't a city and resources are mighty thin. You'd be well to speak kind words in a friendly way. Remember what Mama said," If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all".

And yes, excavating the history of Trona immensely affects me. People drive by the sagebrush field, see my little red car parked there. They don't know I am out in that field hidden behind the sagebrush crying in silence. Sitting on my butt in a hole I've dug, covered in dirt. Immersed within profundities-of-conceptualization. Most of what I'm finding is prior to WW1. Some dates to the 1800s. Old black powder cartridges like the 45-70,38-40,32-20. A lady's brass compact case decorated with palm trees and elephants. A tiny brass compass engraved 'Made in France'. Miniature ladies' perfume bottles with raised embossing. Men's hair tonic. Both with raised embossing 'Made in Paris,France'. One bottle I have found,an old treatment for venereal disease. Liquor bottles, medicine bottles, ointments, salves ad infinitum. Clothing even. Shoes, pants, belt buckles. And yes, objects of gold and silver. Wonderful things. I put some of these on display at the last Trona Gem & Minerological Show. I don't think the locals understood what they were seeing. I have dug in that sagebrush field now two years and have excavated over half a million pounds of sand. Mostly with tiny garden implements. It is a labour of love. For I know what is down there hidden in darkness for a hundred years and more. I must rescue it before the sagebrush field is made into a parking lot.

Let's face facts: If you live in Trona, you're basically a failure.

Posted by: Will at June 15, 2005 04:16 PM

Thanks for making my point,Francine. That Trona's a remote, insular community. Cultish to the max in a scary way. Investigative journalism would uncover wonders, here. How about the recent article in the Daily Independent and Victorville newspaper about child porn being downloaded inside Trona's police dept? Will this be another creepy story about Trona pushed under the rug by the elders who run this town? Let's hear it from investigative journalism who in this town in some position of respect and authority gets off on sex with children. It was a Sheriff's Dept deputy who reported this. This was'nt Joe Blow after a couple of beers.

Posted by: Fred at June 15, 2005 04:17 PM

Not everyone,Will. But a percentage to be sure. These are the ones who throw the biggest hissyfits. I'll take a wild shot at this and guess they came to Trona during the Dust Bowl years from Hooterville southern states, brought their lifestyle and 'family values' with them. It's like the Hatfields and McCoys here.

Posted by: Fred at June 15, 2005 04:22 PM

Here ya go. Either San Bernardino County Sheriff's Dept deputy Katie Sloan is a mental case or she turned physical evidence of child pornography ongoing inside the Trona police dept over to the Sheriff's Dept and it vanished in a coverup. You can't have it both ways. It's rare as hens' teeth we get a cop who goes public. So what are we seeing, here? We've already been thru this as regards the Catholic Churchs' priests sodomizing little boys. That was covered up. So what's going on in Trona? Either Katie's a nutcase or there's something real here. I want to know if there's someone in Trona I'm supposed to salute who's slamming it to little children.

Deputy reports child porn, gets reassigned
Investigation could not corroborate find; Trona officer has four weeks to relocate to Barstow office

TRONA — San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy Katie Sloan has loved being a resident deputy in the lonely mining town of Trona for nearly eight years.

But now that's changing.

She recently received transfer orders to Barstow after she reported finding child pornography on her Sheriff's Department computer. Sheriff's officials, however, dispute that.

"All I want to do is work. I love the post I work at. That's why I've been there so long," Sloan said Friday.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Robin Haynal said the department has the right to transfer deputies as is necessary.

"Every case is different," she said, "but usually it's for the betterment of the department."

Sloan said that she worked in a small office with one computer that was shared with other employees. Sloan said she frequently saw that inappropriate jokes had been downloaded onto a computer that she shared.

But while on leave for an on-duty injury, she went to the station to retrieve her personal memory storage unit, called a giga-bank, she said. When she plugged it into her computer at home, Sloan said she saw child pornography and degrading pictures of nude women.

But sheriff's officials said their investigation didn't confirm that.

"We conducted a criminal investigation, and it was determined there was not kiddie porn ... or any type of porn, on the computer," Haynal said.

As a sheriff's deputy, Sloan said she is required by law to report any crime she witnesses — including possession of child pornography. Sloan said she reported her findings to the internal affairs unit, but in the end, she was told the result was

"The one that reports is the one that is retaliated against or punished, in some way," Sloan said.

Still on leave, she was told on May 24 that she has been reassigned to the Barstow station and that she has four weeks to vacate her home, which costs her only $50 a month, since her station is so remote.

Good info for potential homebuyers of Trona property. I recently had Luis Guardado, building inspector for San Bernardino County come to my house. He told me I lucked out. He said most of the old homes in Trona don't have roofs with a base layer of plywood. They have a base layer of a cancer-causing material, asbestos. First thing you'll wanna do of course is re-roof that old house you just bought for a bargain. Big surprise. Oh but now you gotta go thru the Environmental Protection Agency. Government types dressed up in protective space suits. It'll cost you bigtime. Or do what everyone else in Trona does. Have an unlicensed local creeapzoid do your roof. Ain't it cool.

Fred, I have a serious suggestion for you.
Maybe go into a big city and buy a rope and a step ladder, come back to your luxury pad in Trona. Tie the rope to a rafter, then loop it around your neck, while standing on the top of the step ladder.
Then do the happy dance till the step ladder falls over and you can then really start swingin!~

A hot time in Trona tonight!

Trona deputy reassigned after reporting porn found on sheriff's computer

Friday, June 10, 2005 1:20 PM PDT
Linda Saholt/lsaholt@ridgecrestca.com

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy Katie Sloan has been transferred to the Barstow station after reporting finding pornographic materials downloaded on the Trona Sheriff's Substation computer.

An internal investigation did not corroborate the find, according to authorities involved in the investigation.

Sloan, a resident of Trona for eight years, is upset about the matter.

"I was transferred because I blew the whistle," said Sloan.

She described the Trona substation as a small office with one computer shared with other employees.

On leave for an on-duty injury since December, Sloan said she went to the station to pick up her personal memory storage unit. When plugged into her home computer, Sloan said she found child pornography and degrading pictures of nude women.

"It's all men in the station," said Sloan. "The material was downloaded from the Internet. It's a mystery to me why the investigation couldn't find the pictures. They were clear as a bell on my computer."

Required by law to report any crime she witnesses, Sloan reported her findings to the internal affairs unit.

Now she faces transfer to Barstow in what she feels is a punitive measure.

Sheriff's Department officials say it's a personnel matter and they can't comment.

"We appreciate the opportunity to comment, but to protect employees and the department, we won't comment on personnel matters," said San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Doug Hubbard.

Sloan and her husband enjoy living in Trona, and she does not want to move. Her husband attends Ridgecrest School of Law and has worked as an emergency medical technician and fire fighter but his hours have been suddenly cut back too.

"It all seems to be connected," said Sloan.

In order to move, Sloan feels she and her husband will have to live separately for a time, as he wants to finish his schooling in Ridgecrest.

Sloan says she does not want to live in Barstow, and is considering living with friends in Big Bear and commuting to Barstow.

"I will work wherever they send me. It's a strain on our marriage, but we can work it out. We just have to wait and see," said Sloan.

There's a technique called 'shunning' used by whacko religious, etc cult groups. Francine's commentary above illustrates that perfectly. If you live in Trona you're either 'in' with the dark, hidden powers-that-be or you're 'out'. If you're deemed out then God have mercy on you. Lucky for me I'm wealthy enough I don't have to depend on a bunch of incestoids to rescue me. If you live in a normal community and come to Trona you'll notice immediatly there's something deeply wrong here. Just for speaking the truth,as you've seen here I've been threatened with having the crap beat out of me,being shot, hung and left to die if I ever need help. Trona's an exact duplicate of the movie U-Turn.

Dear "Seth",
It can be rather difficult for someone to "relaz" and lighten up when they are being told by someone anonymously attempting(unsuccessfully I might add)to threaten them with a "Hot Time In Trona", especially considering the homes that have been burned out from beneath their residents by Maggot-Infested Druggie Tweakers.

I have some travel instructions for "Seth"...Walk West until your feet get wet, then keep walking until your hat floats...

A technique of the locals used against me for the last year or so (including 30 seconds ago) are intimidating hang-up phone calls. I have an unlisted phone number so the calls can only be coming from two people. One's a fat broad who walks naked thru the desert wearing only go-aheads. She banged the entire Trona high school football team. She went after a father. He would'nt bang her so she successfully banged his son. Word has it she banged a Trona cop and he was thrown out of town for it. The calls are coming from either her or a woman who's plugged into Trona hierarchy. Was my unlisted phone number illegally acessed and handed out by Trona fire dept or police dept or the local COPS group?

There was a layoff at the factory I work at. I've heard so many good things about Trona from a guy by the name of Billy Joe Bob, that I'm thinking of relocating to Trona.

Posted by: twinkles at June 16, 2005 09:30 PM

So Mr. Eric "Checked Me Out" did he? LOL!
That's quite astonishing coming from a fellow who uses AOL as a Service Provider and can't find his Shift Key or form a proper sentence.

It's also quite amazing the way he tells me to shut up, while in the same breath says everyone has a right to speak.

I'll bet he has his 3rd Grade Diploma framed and hung in a place of honor in his shack.

Carry On, Mr. Eric! Ya gotz me shakin' in me boots!

it's about time to stop talking, about how bad trona is, and let's work together. (yes i said together) lets clean the place up, starting with some of the half burned houses. and if we can accomplish that, then we can work on bigger problems.(like the tweekers)lets start small and work our selfs to the big stuff. i think we can do it. BUT WE HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER!!! yes fred this means we need your help to.

Posted by: me at June 18, 2005 02:15 AM

i was reading some of the post. and i could't believe how bad everyone dogged this place. but we all live here!!! hello doesn't any one care that when we talk s___t about our town that we are talking s__t one ourselves. (DUH)

Posted by: me at June 18, 2005 02:24 AM

I differ. Websites like this serve a good purpose. They give a voice to those shouted-down should they dare speak the truth. It is something to be ashamed of that people seeing our community fall over in shock at the carnage. Trona property values are in the pits due in large part to the burned and long-abandoned,boarded up houses. Were it possible to post photographs of every one of these Trona buildings the true extent of the devestation here would be known. These buildings are firetraps. We often get hot winds here over 80mph. One of these days we'll lose half the town to an out-of-control fire. Good building to bulldoze first would be the apartment building with no roof next to the Pinnacle Inn.

I have been informed by Trona powers-that-be to shut up and let this story die http://www.ridgecrestca.com/articles/2005/06/10/news/local/news01.txt
If what I've been told is true the coverup goes right to the top of San Bernardino County government.

shut-up and let what story die

Posted by: me at June 19, 2005 12:53 AM

I have no doubt that Katie is being singled out and will soon have her personal life disrupted. As the only female Deputy working in Trona it makes it hard on the other Deputies to be able "run this office with no outside influence". That means whatever takes place in the Trona Station, stays unnoticed, unreported and private. Given a badge and athourity, and no real concern from the County government,(except to keep Trona as low profile as possible) Katie did her job and now is paying for it. It isn't right, it isn't fair but it is a fact that San Bernadino has turned away from this community ever since the Mining Royalities quit filling the Politician's budget.
One person or even 12 won't stand a chance going against the powers that be downtown. They get lawyers [at Taxpayers expense I assume] to defend the poor quality of service we recieve here. If you are a County Employee you better do as you are told, or you will be an Ex-County Employee very soon.
Is Katie a nut-case? NO! Katie is now another victim of San Bernadino County Cover-ups. I have seen it personally, I have lived it.
This is just the beginning for her, here she has people that know her and will stand beside her. Barstow knows this, and that is why she is being transfered. It won't stop the humiliation that will come next in her workplace. That too will go unnoticed and disputed by her Captain all the way up to the Sheriff.
I have learned something about the County Officials in San Bernadino and it isn't in anyone's best interest to try to expose them. They are well protected and will continue to run things as they see fit. Go against them and You are in for an eye-opening experience of power.
To not get involved in the ongoing occurences and to look the other way when you do see this kind of activity is considered the prefered choice by the San Bernadino County Government. Especially when you live in a small community in the largest county in California.
It's futile to go any other way. I appreciate Katie's honesty. I hope this incident doesn't affect her like I have seen other's lives twisted and manipulated back to conformity of the San Bernadino County "Policy".
Trona is one of this county's jewels for illegal activities but it wasn't always like this. I'm glad I lived here during the good times and saddened by the way it has become. It didn't get this way without a fight. We fought and lost. At least we pulled together then. It seems now to be "devide and destroy" to finish off these last few residents determined to stay here.
Fred, you boast of your wealth. Are you here stirring up hate and discontent for the County ? Will you take your wealth and move to another town and do the same when this one is finished or are you just ignorant of the last twenty years of struggle against San Bernadino County that the residents here have endured.
My questions are not accusations, I am simply asking, wondering what made you want to live in an obviously troubled community.

Let me include this here for the others reading this.

Fred probably isn't a bad person. I don't even know who he is. It's my guess he has come here seeking a quiet life and like others has seen the curruption and feels the frustration also.

I have only this to say to you that feel you must post insults and derogatory statements to persons you don't know.

... I'm retreating, I won't give you morons anymore to feed on. I have higher aspirations for my efforts as you continue on your mission of becoming village idiots...

Posted by: Francine at June 19, 2005 01:05 AM

Nice demonstration of class,Francine. Loved the language. The real issue here is truth. Did Katie make up the child porn story or was she telling the truth? She says she turned over the physical evidence to investigators. The photos were clear as a bell, she says. But the investigators say there were no child porn photos. One of these two is lying, either Katie or the Sheriff's Dept. Child pornography is'nt something you can confuse. It either is or is'nt. Katie being a trained police officer would know child porn if she saw it. Meanwhile,as this issue is being swept under the rug we've got a couple of fine police officers in Trona who've basically been publicly accussed of drooling over child pornography. I want this thing cleared up ASAP. And I don't care where the chips fall. My heart goes out to Tim Lotspeich. He can't speak out about this. He'd be a fool if he did. Were I in his shoes I'd be experiencing rage and frustration. He's a good man and the best cop I've ever known.

Posted by: Fred at June 19, 2005 12:29 PM

Fred, PAC-MAN isn't all that. i don't know what he has done for you. that was sooo great. i could only imagine... at least Katie done her job the right way. she didn't take sides if you broke the law, then you had to pay for it. she didn't let you get away with it because she liked you. or because she didn't want to do paperwork. PAC-MAN was here before.

Well,at age 59 and having lived thru the 1960s I've met lots of cops. Mostly the hard way. A good cop does'nt let you know how smart he is. Tim's like that. You're thinking here's some yokel cop way out in the boondocks. What an idiot, right? That would be a mistake. People that think that way get their rights read to them. Tim can smell BS a mile away. He's straight with you and if you're straight with him,no problem. If we did'nt have Tim in Trona this place would quickly become a cesspool. Tim's the man with the badge at the OK Corral.

Posted by: Fred at June 19, 2005 03:38 PM

Does'nt anyone here have a sense of humor? Yes,there's tragedy in Katie's story. But there's also immense humor. I'm not current on the exact terminology. What's it called;choking the lizzard, stroking the chicken? Something like that. But that's what somebody in our local police station is allegedly doing over photos of child porn and nekked hooters. Next time I'm inside the station I'll be careful not to touch anything. Gawd knows where it's been. I don't wanna get any on me. I thought life would be boring in Trona. It's the opposite. Never a boring moment, here.

Posted by: Fred at June 19, 2005 04:30 PM

On leave for an on-duty injury since December, Sloan said she went to the station to pick up her personal memory storage unit. When plugged into her home computer, Sloan said she found child pornography and degrading pictures of nude women.

"It's all men in the station," said Sloan. "The material was downloaded from the Internet. It's a mystery to me why the investigation couldn't find the pictures. They were clear as a bell on my computer."
Well there ya go. There's only two male cops in that station. I saw one guy in there once with Trona's so-called volunteer COPS group. So you got only the two sworn peace officers and the COPS group. So if Katie's telling the truth, who's doing whackity-whackity to six-year-old Suzie Creamcheese? Or did it never happen and all this is some sort of scam? You people in Trona pretending leadership;you've got testicals smaller than peas. And you at the Sheriff's Dept;damn you to Hell for leaving good cops accused of this horror twisting slowely, slowely in the wind. You know what they say rises to the top. In case your underlings are afraid to tell you,I will. That's you.

Posted by: Fred at June 19, 2005 07:30 PM

Damn! and to think I gave you the benifit of doubt Fred....
No one but you remotely suggested that the Trona Deputies (men) were suspected of doing the porn thing. I figure it was a Barstow Deputy filling in while Katie was off on leave. That would explain the culprit's stupidity, and the reason for the cover-up.
Heaven forbid an honest female tell the truth! Now that you have mentioned it, perhaps it could have been your demi-god Tim. Let's see... past record of an IA investigation, a male ego needing to get "even" for a mistaken accusation that will always be on record,(not Katie's fault) and the same ol' preference of the good ol' boys that a woman shouldn't be working a mans job. Well Fred have you looked at this from the other side ? Are you comfortable with the idea that perhaps your wife or daughter gets arrested and there is no female Deputy to pat her down, especially since this latest revelation that is being covered up?
Btw, I was a member of the Trona COP's for 5 years until Barstow replaced one woman hating deputy with another of the same type. Volenteers are just that, volenteers and shouldn't have to put up with the attitude of a wiseass, woman hating, gun toteing, badge carrying idiot. That's what we had as a deputy befor Tim came back. I bet you have no idea why Tim has the nickname pacman. So let me tell you, it would be a funny story if it didn't include the fact that our tax dollars paid for all the repairs on the county vehicles your demi-god recklessly abused chasing suspects in the desert in a crown vic... I'd think somewhere a decision between wrecking a vehicle and putting it out of service versus catching a "suspect" and getting that ego stroked, a well trained Deputy knows there will be another day to catch the offender.
I pay my taxes and would appreciate that those who's jobs are supported by our taxes take care of the equipment and not tear it up wrecklessly without forethought.
So since you believe you have the truth, and so much as called Katie a liar, carry on Fred. You just keep on looking more foolish with every post. You are the type of guy that would move to a small town and begin spouting off about things you know nothing about. You have proved that over and over with your ranting insults and personal attacks. I think you are paranoid if you truely called the cops over a post in this blogger... This would all be funny if it wasn't true. What a dork you must be not to see that what is going on here is coming from higher officials with they're own agenda. Pull your head out of the sand and use it for more than a hat rack. I can't believe you called Katie a liar AFTER you posted this yourself.

I have been informed by Trona powers-that-be to shut up and let this story die http://www.ridgecrestca.com/articles/2005/06/10/news/local/news01.txt
If what I've been told is true the coverup goes right to the top of San Bernardino County government.
Posted by: Fred at June 18, 2005 04:57 PM

Makes me wonder WHO the LIAR really is. You are looking more and more like a shit-stirrer Fred, how about that? and to think this blogger was started as a journalistic view of the blight of run down small towns. Good job Mike, you've chased the rat into the light. I guess we should be ever grateful for you setting the bait and laying the trap.
Another one bites the dust...

And do yourself a favor Fred, take your own advice and keep your hands in your pockets next time you visit the Trona Station. (if you arn't handcuffed) That will keep you off the suspect list of conspiricy.

Posted by: Francine at June 19, 2005 11:11 PM

Is it just me or does it seem like Fred has some personal tie with a certain Deputy ? Why you hanging out at the Station Fred? Are you and your buddy playing cops and robbers. Does being near a cell turn you on. You have refered to Tim as a god, the best cop you have ever met and such a nice guy...
It's looking pretty clear here with all your droolings over Deputy Tim exactly whats going on. I will assume nothing but go on your word. Watching you fight with such passion pretty much says it all.

Posted by: twinkles at June 20, 2005 10:02 AM

I was pointing out how ridiculous the allegation was. Someone inside a tiny police station downloading child pornography. Possibly masturbating to it. What else do pedophiles do with child porn? Have a tea party? Here's a scenario for you. A sworn peace officer goes public in two newspapers that someone in your home is downloading child pornography. You'd be on the phone to a lawyer within seconds.

Posted by: Fred at June 20, 2005 10:04 AM

to Francine: I was in the Trona police station one time. I gave Tim some of the antique bottles I've excavated over the years. The ones I gave him I dug up in old mining camps in the Colorado Rockies. Far as I know they're still on display in the station.

What's happening here is we're getting an inside view of the dark, ugly undercurrent flowing thru many small, remote villages thruout America. This place in the desert vastness called Trona begs for investigative journalism. So much here is covered-up,swept under the rug, buried. Why? What group does this benefit? Shattered lives and a trail of tears. Alfred Hitchcock would've loved Trona. There is a Hell in small towns like Trona.

Posted by: Fred at June 20, 2005 05:49 PM

And something else. You'll know what I'm talking about. A door opens,we get a look inside the room we're forbidden to peer into. These things we believ in. Totems. Mom,apple pie.religion, politics, police officers, the system of justice. On and on. While we swim gracefully along like porpoise thru a sea of somnambulence. Once in a rare while the door opens. We get only a peek and then it's gone. A glimpse into how things really are. A nasty, uncomfortable Place we avoid by not thinking about it.

Posted by: Fred at June 20, 2005 07:21 PM

If there's a good ending here,I hope that Tim and other innocent parties slammed by the scuzzy allegations-made-public are working out of public view to settle this thing to their satisfaction. What I want to see is a public apology published in the two newspapers that carried Katie's story. That might be enough to settle this thing. And everyone goes home happy. Either Katie lied or the Sheriff's Dept lied. Want to bet fifty bucks on who?

Posted by: Fred at June 21, 2005 05:43 PM

did anyone ever accuse tim?

Posted by: me at June 21, 2005 08:06 PM

fred let it die, thats the problem between katie and her employers. it has nothing to do with you or anybody else on here. This is the problem with trona everybody making judgements without truly knowing what really happened. You always say things about tweekers, tweekers are people with problems that they cant deal with, and they try to use that to fix it. You cant help somebodys whos hurting by trying to hurt them more some people use drugs, and others use alcohol like you fred. I know you dont mean all the bad things youve said your just letting out your anger that you are holding inside. People need to let go of their drugs and acohol because it just makes things worse for them and everybody around them. only then things will change I hate nothing , i just have a hard time understanding why people blame others for their problems.

It saddens me to see how misunderstood the town of trona really is. I have lived there since my birth, YES i was born in trona california, and you know i am proud of it. Yes trona has gone downhill, and yes there are druggies there, but if you look at every city and town in this nation that we live in, there are druggies, crooks, and everything else imaginable there. Why single out one town and say hey it is the assole of the world, hey it stinks WHATEVER.......all of you on your high horses, you might as well get off of them, your town that you live in is no mightier than the town that the president lives in and by no means better than trona. There may be few people that live there and there may be many burned out houses, but you know, trona realy isn't that bad of a place to live. We all just need to learn how to have more pride in the place that we live in. As a matter of fact we could all learn a little from the people that are involved in the trona clean up crew. Do you hear them complaining about cleanin up the town......NOPE, so instead of belittling a town that is a little rusty, get out the cleanin polish and help renew this wonderful place. AND JUST SO THAT ALL OF YOU KNOW, TRONA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING A LOT OF THE EVERY DAY THINGS THAT WE ALL TAKE FOR GRANTED, LOOK IT UP YOU'LL BE SURPRISED..........and i will leave you all with this to think about......trona wasnt built in one day, and it wasn't destroyed in one day either, take pride in this land, for it is the only one that god has given us to live on.

Posted by: cryin_4_trona at June 23, 2005 12:06 AM

The problem is'nt so much the small trash. I've participated in those cleanups. It's amazing the amount of trash we remove. The bigger problem are all those burned and/or abandoned, boarded up homes. People seeing Trona for the first time think there's something wrong here. Because they know what their own communities would do. Their communities would'nt put up with it for two seconds. People here are using some of those homes as garbage dumps. They pull off the plywood covering a window and throw yard trash, etc inside. This is a tragedy waiting to happen. It's a fire hazzard,a health hazzard and a big promoter of crime. Dopers, hobos and the mentally ill take up residence in those abandoned, junked homes. I wish there was room at this site for more photos. It's really sad to see this.

Posted by: Fred at June 23, 2005 10:29 AM

I moved to Trona 10 years ago, because my parents moved out there. Trona was all right then, small town so people knew each other, you know who your kids hung out with and all that. Now, its not the same. Trona is now school children playing house, and drinking games, and smoking weed all the time. I know the Vassars are for one, people who are drug fiends, I have family who are too, nothing to be ashamed about just more reason to distance yourself. But then there are the unwed mothers who are ashamed to say who their babies fathers are, and then getting caught having adulterous affairs and tearing other families up. To the people who are tryign to create a better town, more power to you. And the ones who think Trona suck, it's your opinion. But the whole message board going from Trona sucks to go hang yourself is a little much. What may be your fantasy is sometimes someone elses reality.

Posted by: Someone at June 23, 2005 06:09 PM

The good side to Trona is immense. I love it here. I've met lots of interesting people. I enjoy the minds, the personal experiences of all these people. I found it fascinating the people who I've met at the museum, senior center, police dept, medical center (special appreciation to Dr. Joe) and on and on. Connie Corto of Trona Care deserves ten million kisses for what she's done for Trona. There are good people, here. I think we're all a special bunch. You see a different breed of people out here. Independent, resilient survivors. Very much like the folks who colonized the Wild West. I just wish I did'nt buy my house here for $24,000 then have to spend another $8,000+ to burglar-proof it. And there's humor here. I got a good belly-laugh from the Vassar brother who posted here. He wrote everyone else in his family are good with their fists. He's the only one carrying a firearm. I sent his post straight to law enforcement to see if he's got a CCW for that gun. And he says his parole-violator brother never met a cop he could'nt take in a fight. Law enforcement loved reading that. That will go into the brother sent-to-prison's file. We do have a fairy large population of idiots out here.

Thursday, June 23, 2005 12:32 PM PDT

Two persons were arrested June 19 for burglary and possession of stolen property in connection with the multiple break-ins at the Trona Presbyterian Church and Trona Community Pool's snack bar.

Arrested were suspects Jason Dale Carter, 29, and Melissa Kay Hudgins, 33, both of Trona.

In the past two weeks, the Trona Presbyterian Church has been burglarized three times, between June 10 and 18. During the burglaries, a coffee maker and food items were stolen.

On June 19, the Trona Community Pool snack bar was burglarized and a variety of candy was stolen.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Cpl. Tim Lotspeich investigated the burglaries and developed leads which led to obtaining a search warrant signed by Judge Gibson of the Barstow Superior Court for the search of a Trona residence.

During the search, deputies found the stolen coffee maker and some of the food taken from the Trona Presbyterian Church. Additional evidence, including stolen candy from the pool burglary, was also discovered inside the residence linking the suspects to the church burglary.

Carter was arrested and charged with burglary and possession of stolen property and Hudgins was arrested for possession of stolen property.

Both suspects were booked at the Barstow Jail. The case is being reviewed by the Barstow District Attorney's office.

Posted by: eric at June 24, 2005 01:39 AM

23 years old and in prison, that's a kid? No,that's a retard. He's man enough to do the crimes so now he's doing the time. What do you think hurts him more, being called stupid or his long vacation in prison? If I had a nickle for every retard loser in Trona I could buy a Cadillac. Criminals playing their game in Trona will rot behind bars while the whole town laughs at them. Is that truth too uncomfortable to you,Bubba?

Posted by: Fred at June 24, 2005 10:50 AM

was he the boy from Ridgecrest that never was found ? I kinda remember something like that. Wasn't he out in the desert with friends or family and they had an argument? Seems he walked away but never returned home. I think the Deputies here at that time helped search for a day or so. I think that was when Deputy Lovasco,Cpl.Rojo and Deputy McComas was here.

Dug up two more antique bottles today in the sagebrush field next to the Trona rest stop. And a lovely spoon labeled 'Rogers Nickel silver'. To find one bottle I must dig up at least 2,000lbs of sand. After two years digging I have dug up over half a million pounds of sand. The result;I am dirty most of the time from digging up old garbage pits from the 1800s/early 1900s. After 28 months here I have gone from being an upstanding, prissy Orange County republican to,dare I say it,a possible Tronian. The Tronians are starting to look good to me. Please, someone shoot me before the transformation takes place.

This Ray Charles song is dedicated to Trona's top cop Tim Lotspeich who routinely busts the crapola out of our local loser dirtbags. Dopers, burglars, thieves. Tim is God's answer to cleaning up the gene pool.
My bills are all due and the baby needs shoes and I'm busted
Cotton is down to a quarter a pound, but I'm busted
I got a cow that went dry and a hen that won't lay
A big stack of bills that gets bigger each day
The county's gonna haul my belongings away cause I'm busted.

I went to my brother to ask for a loan cause I was busted
I hate to beg like a dog without his bone, but I'm busted
My brother said there ain't a thing I can do,
My wife and my kids are all down with the flu,
And I was just thinking about calling on you 'cause I'm busted.

Dear Tronians,
In order to save the moderator of Satan's Laundromat all the grief of listening to everybody beat each other up, I magnanimously set all of you up with your own BBS Message Board:

Use these powers wisely, use them with grace!

If everybody treats it nicely, I'll even turn on the html so you can post pix and the like...

I'll give that website a going-over after I post Bing Crosby's song that defines me to a tee
I'm an old cowhand from the Rio Grande
But my legs ain't bowed and my cheeks ain't tan
I'm a cowboy who never saw a cow
Never roped a steer cause I don't know how
Sure ain't a fixin to start in now
Yippie yi yo kayah

I'm an old cowhand and I come down from the Rio Grande
And I learned to ride, ride, ride 'fore I learned to stand
I'm a riding fool who is up to date
I know every trail in the Lone Star State
Cause I ride the range in a Ford V-8
Yippie yi yo kayah

We're old cowhands from the Rio Grande
And we come to town just to hear the band
We know all the songs that the cowboys know
'Bbout the big corral where the doggies go
We learned them all on the radio
Yippie yi yo kayah

I'm an old cowhand
Oh yes, Mr. Bing.
Too hot for you, Uncle Fudd?
Down from the Rio Grande
Oh where the west is wild all around the borderland
Where the buffalo roam around the zoo
and the Injuns run up a rug or two
and the old Bar X is just a barbecue, yeah
Yippie yi yo kayah

I'm a pioneer who began from scratch
I don't bat an eye in a shootin' match.
They don't call me Elmer, they call me Satch.
Yippie yi yo kayah
Yippie yi yo kayah

Get along little horsy
Get along little horsy
Yippie yi yo kayah, oh!

These Tronians give me such a smile. You can see why Tim Lotspeich is kept busy throwing these yokels in prison.

Posted by: Fred at June 25, 2005 02:06 PM

I was reading above about someone called PAC-MAN. If this is the same cop, then the guy is worthless. The guy I remember being called PAC-MAN was a cop in 1990 when I was a going to Trona High School. This guy harrassed anyone underage that he could. Between himself in Garrison (a cop at that time as well) they pissed off a lot of people in the community. If they saw a car that they knew belonged to a kid, they would pull them over. My father was pulled over twice by these guys just because he was in the car that I always drove. He was never ticketed and they never had a good excuse as to why. PAC-MAN never ticketed me either, but I was pulled over by him several times, had my car searched several times without a reason. I have never had a record, never did drugs, and did not hang out with the "bad" kids. I think he just harrassed out of pure boredom. PAC-MAN loved to break up desert parties just like any other cop, so we just convinced a few of the girls to flirt with him and then it was okay to party. He would even hang out since he actually thought he might get somewhere with them even though they were minors. The last parties I remember in Trona before I left, he would stop by and if those same girls were there, they would flirt and he would leave us alone. He and Garrison were turned by my parents and other parents as well for how they treated citizens. Man I hope that isn't the same guy, because if that is and there was a porn issue, then it would not surprise me. The cops I remember would have gladly accepted a sexual bribe to get out of a ticket. If that town wants to improve, they need to start by getting better cops if the same PAC-MAN is still one of them.

Posted by: Past Resident at June 25, 2005 04:09 PM

That gives us good folks in Trona a real stiffie, knowing that Tim still strikes fear into the losers from 1990 to 2005. I vote we double Tim's salary. I've been down the hard path with cops. That was 35 years ago. That was because I was a dumb little punk brain full of mush. The moment I stopped being that and became a man my cop-problems stopped. As for the Vassar brother he'll do his time,be released. And the next time he returns to prison it'll be for a murder conviction.

Posted by: Fred at June 25, 2005 04:47 PM

It's Saturday afternoon. I've got beer. I've got the Cream album on playing Sunshine of your love and White Room. I'm ready to take on the numbskulls in mind-battle. This is'nt fair because I'm highly intelligent and they're from the movies Deliverance and Bad Day at Black Rock.

The Tronians, present and ex who attack me here, they get off on Liberache music

Posted by: Fred at June 25, 2005 05:43 PM

You know Fred, for someone who is so unhappy with Trona, you do try to praise your cops a little much. I know for a fact that when Trona citizens call the police station, it either takes them 4 hours to show up, or they do nothing about the situation. Past Resident is right, Trona needs to start with better police if they are trying to change their community. And on top of that, I think the Barker brothers should be kicked out, all they want to do is run the damn place, and try to get people in trouble that werent even doign anything in the first place. Talk about losers. Trona needs alot of help to make over their small town.

Posted by: Someone at June 25, 2005 06:08 PM

Whoa. There's another Tronian out there who likes 60s acid rock. An hour ago I heard Cream in the distance. I am developing a rappor with the locals by leaving my window open. They can hear my CDs. We have some sort of a jungle communication going on here. I got Jethro Tull's A New Day Yesterday on now, this following two volumes of Jeff Beck. This is totally heavy and far out.

Posted by: Fred at June 25, 2005 07:03 PM

to someone: All I can say is I'm changing CDs from Jethro Tull to,um,the Velvet Underground's Waiting for the Man. As for cops,Tim Lotspeich,PAC-MAN and all that stuff ya gotta ask yourself what you got to lose. We got a whole bunch of people here in Trona who're older. And they've got a lot to lose. Themselves, their children, their homes, their peace-of-mind. And we've got a minority whos' Book of Life has already been written. These people are the walking dead. They willingly put themselves there. I did'nt put the Vassar brother in prison. I did'nt hurt anyone. I don't want to hurt anyone. People like me,we're the 99.9% of Trona. And beyond that extending thruout America. What Tim's doing,we want him to do.

Posted by: Fred at June 25, 2005 07:18 PM

No, I have never been in trouble my whole life, except with my parents. I have children to worry about too. All I am telling you is the cop you think so highly about are not as great as you think. I never would have moved, but the school system is coming apart, and the fact that cops there dotn do anything about anyone. I have reported drug abusers and given addresses and everything and the cops go there, and dont do anything. Thats not justice. i do not want my kids being raised around that. Thats why we moved. I graduated from Trona, and I am glad I lived there I met some great friends and got to experience actually being a teen. But I couldnt stay long enough to raise my kids there. So to you and all the rest who think that the cops are so great, would half of the druggies be there if the cops were doing half of their jobs?

Posted by: Someone at June 25, 2005 07:41 PM

4:45pm. I have burned my way thru a mountain of acid rock CDs and gallons of beer. Now I'm into XMsatelitte radio's 1940 station listening to Ted Fio Rito's I'll string along. "You may not be an angel, but I'm sure you'll do. Until that day comes along I'll string along with you". Have you no heart,Someone? Oh,Glen Miller's on now with At Last. "At last my love has come along. My lonely days are over. And my life is like a song". Now that I'm feeling good having cast aside the horrors of these modern,lawyer-infested times I must feed my nine rescueed cats and fix dinner. I will make something with huge shrimp, garlic and butter. I may use a flour tortilla and make what I used to eat at the tiny shops along the seaside in San Felipe,BC,Baja,Mexico. But I will make it better.

Posted by: Fred at June 25, 2005 07:54 PM

It's simple not complicated,Someone. Pin a badge to your chest. Go out there and play cop. You'd be a dustspot in thirty minutes. I'm a tough, smart man who's been thru the mill since 1946. I could'nt handle the job. Nor could you. Men like Tim they have faults. You don't? I do. But the Tim's of this World go out there and get the job done. Like our soldiers in Vietnam and now,in Iraq. You look down on that thinking yourself intellectually superior. Walk the walk before you talk the talk. I'm off to bed now for a night of satelitte tv. The O'Reilly Factor is my favorit show.

Posted by: Fred at June 25, 2005 08:08 PM

See now I never said in any way was I better than Tim. I know he is your buddy and all btu I am telling you, I know they dont handle the things the way they should. How hard can it be to go to a house when told they are under the influence and take them to jail? How easy was it to pull people over just because? And how many times is the KD Slaon incident going to happen before they realized they overlooked something somewhere. I honestly believe that the county is just trying to hide from having to work too hard. What would make KD make all this up? I knwo her and she is a very nice person and a great cop. But she is the only honest one out of all of them. I wouldnt trade spots with her, but the other ones I would for one reason. They dont do a damn thing.

Posted by: Someon at June 25, 2005 08:50 PM

yes this is the same PAC-MAN that was here before.

Posted by: me at June 26, 2005 02:01 AM

The situation will work itself out. That's for sure. And Tim is doing a fine job as witness the many articles in the Daily Independent. The majority of Trona citizens don't have cop-confrontations. There's a core group who do. When I was behind bars many years ago, every guy in there bee-atched about the mean, nasty cops who put them in there. The truth is they put themselves in there. When I cleaned up my life,it was a good feeling. It's an ugly thing to live constantly in fear. You people out there on parole, probation, doing drugs, thefts, etc ar'nt safe from arrest and jail 24/7. If you're breaking the law;wherever you are, wherever you go
you can be free one minute, handcuffed and on your way to jail the next minute. Clean up your lives and you'll never fear cops again. And as you mature you'll understand the larger picture. People that feel they have nothing have nothing to lose. Water seeks it's own level. Losers hang around together. Winners hang around together. Which group you'll be a part of is your choice.

Posted by: Fred at June 26, 2005 12:18 PM

See now, here we go. I dont think there is anyone actually out there who cares what music you listen to fred. I love reading these posts, but who the hell cares you are drinking gallons of beer and listning to ascid rock? I know who I am, and I am proud to have gone to THS for 2 years, graduated and have a great life. ButI think somehow or another you are so stuck on this Trona sucks trip, that you have created someone that doesnt have a friend but your bestest cop ever! I hope you enjoy your life, because Trona will someday be good again and stupid "shit stirrers" like you will have nothing to cry about anymore.

Sheriff Deputies catch suspects found with stolen jewelry, rifle

Sunday, June 26, 2005 1:12 AM PDT

When Kern County Sheriff's Deputy William Hull investigated the scene of a residential burglary in Inyokern Wednesday afternoon, he found a nice set of footprints that led him to a home several blocks away. Inside were four adults - and 90 percent of the stolen goods including several thousand dollars worth of jewelry, antique coins and a .22 caliber rifle.

Four adults were arrested and taken to jail. Three of the four were Inyokern residents, the fourth person was from Trona.

A teenager also was booked and taken to Juvenile Hall in Bakersfield.

The victim, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated she had been away from her residence for several hours. Upon arriving home, the victim discovered the break-in.

Apparently the suspects entered the home through a back window. It appears the suspects had been watching the home for some time.

Authorities responded right away and were able to recover 90 percent of the items stolen.

It appears the suspects stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and antique coins, frozen food, and a .22 caliber rifle. These items were recovered and returned to the owner.

Other items still missing were important papers.

The following arrests were made:

Trona resident Eddie Ray Sanders, 26, charged with residential burglary, possession of stolen property, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, failure to register as required as an arsonist, and parole violation.

The other three adults arrested are Inyokern residents:

Sounds to me like ol Eddie Ray might be a third-striker. By the time he gets out of prison there'll be cities on Mars. Think anyone will miss Eddie while he's Bubba's girlfriend behind bars? I sure won't. I'll be drinking cold beers and listening to the stereo. Eddie won't,though. Does any of this sink into you,Someone? Or the other rocket scientists in Trona?

Good morning,

I web-searched looking for help and found your site. I'm 55 years old and live in Orange County, Southern California.

A local man approached me a year ago. He's a leader of our community, a conservative republican and an evangelical fundamentalist Christian. He had heard that I in 1958 had been subjected to childhood sexual molestation.

To make a long story short, he pretended at first to be a friend then progressed to trying his damnedest to induct me into his religion. It's finally dawned on me that he views me as emotionally vulnerable to his sales pitch because of my childhood.

Last night was the final straw. It was Christmas Eve. I wanted to be left alone. The idiot e-mailed me "Look on your porch". I did, and found a pile of whacko Christian books.

Is there a "nice" way to get this bastard off my back? I've tried diplomacy, etc. Nothing gets thru to him. I'm tried being brutally honest. I've insulted the bastard. Still he keeps coming. This is really starting to upset me. Got two hours of sleep last night because of this. How do you get rid of these people?

With kind regards,
Fred Hermon

You are right Emotionally Vulnerable. I just saw your post and realized that Fred left his last name above. I found this about him as well. Fred is onto something here. It is so easy to cut and paste a person's dirty laundry. So many people have been insulted on this site. You can find all kinds of stuff about Fred on the net. He spends a lot of time searching for stuff to insult people. I hope he enjoys this just as much as we all enjoy hearing him. This actually only took less than a minute to find all this stuff. I have much more as well. There were 3 pages on the search engine about him. Below is what Fred had to say about his first sexual experience. I hope others follow Emotional's lead. I think I would rather have an article posted about me being arrested than this:

from Fred Hermon [new! May 2003]

I was 12 years old in 1958. My mom, dad, sister and I were staying at the Shamrock Hotel. I loved visiting the Tiger Balm Gardens and riding the Star Ferry and taking a sampan out to the floating restaurant. Rubbing Tiger Balm on my chest and inhaling it I think was my very first sexual experience. I'm 55 years old now and have Tiger Balm in my medicine cabinet. And it still gets me hot..!!

Let's drop pretenses. Let's be honest. I'm vastly, intellectually superior to Trona's lower echelon. I have to drop to Neanderthal level just to say hi to you. I have come to Trona to save you from yourselves. I'm your daddy. The parent you never had. And you're brats. You'll be better after my work is done. You'll be able to spell and pronunciate properly. You won't be banging your sisters and daughters. You won't think the best job in life is being Ahpoo at the 7-11. These are good things.

Dr. Fred seems to be in denial. Let me show my trail everyone. Here is how I found out that our beloved Fred Hermon in Trona is the same Fred Hermon here. He hasn't broken any laws, but man this stuff is funny.

What is your name?
Fred Hermon

Do you have any comments?
Sold my property in Orange County, recently. Bought a home in Trona. My 75 year old friend Al organized a treasure expedition seeking the silver lost in Owens Lake. I intend to treat Al to a night or two at the Cerro Gordo hotel.

Ouch he got us there. You all should listen to Fred. Those of us who have college degrees and good jobs should follow our friend's example and proceed to dig up trash and then live in the fantasy world of superiority. I must go now everyone. Fred has shown me the way. I think that I saw a vintage box of Lucky Charms sticking out of my neighbor's garbage. I must salvage it before someone gets to it before I do. If anyone would like to bid on it I will post it on Ebay tomorrow. I will then rub myself vigorously with Tiger-balm to celebrate. Meow........

I come to Trona for the first time in my life late March 2003. And 48 hours later began to uncover a vast,buried,urban-archeological history lain buried a hundred years and more mere feet from Trona's museum. Who are you people that you cannot see what lay's beneath your feet though you walk upon it? You and your petty squabbles, your unending nonsensical Hatfields & McCoys idiocy. A pox on all of you who so willingly attack me. To know why Trona stinks, just read the posts here. I,like others come bearing gifts. Trona is truely the 1954 movie Bad Day at Black Rock. If anything's plain here it's that you people deserve websites dedicated to portraying your town as populated by fools. Your lips move but nothing comes out.

Posted by: eric at June 26, 2005 06:29 PM

Fred says he comes bearing gifts, but he puts people down any chance he gets. Obviously he is a person who enjoys making enemies. The only reason we look at this website is to see what Fred will say next. It is really funny. He is probably a man who has burned his bridges. His last ditch effort in life to be fulfilled is to listen to the voices that tell him he is better than those around him. But the people driving down the road just see a poor bedraggled man digging for trash. The people he so easily criticizes would probably gladly open their home to him and be his friend if they did not know him. But instead all they will see is that bitter man on the side of the road digging for past glory. His only joy is to get on the computer, pull out his thesaurus to try to throw in a few words that might impress us. And with his words he points fingers at anyone who do not live like he wants them to live. He could be in heaven and he would probably still find people to criticize. The only nice words that he says on this site are in support of anyone else who likes to put people down. Many of the people who post on this site are people who don't even live in Trona and have accomplished more in life than Fred ever will. Fred is the kind of guy that if he has kids, they probably do not like him. He probably owes the mother child-support or cannot speak to her because how he treated her in the past. People like him blame the system when bad things happen to him. He probably spends more time judging others than he does himself. Fred is a living case study that you could analyze like a mouse in a maze. He is the type of person who would befriend a police officer because he feels that gives him a sense of power as well. The police office he befriends is a person who has no friends himself. A person who has been a laughing stock of San Bernadino county for close to 20 years now. He has tried to get out of Trona, but his reputation and poor people skills keep him grounded in the place he calls hell. If that is the type of person Fred admires, then that speaks volumns about Fred himself. If it was not for Fred no one would post on this site. Fred is like a silly reality show where people tune in to feel better about themselves. I myself heard about this site through word of mouth. Fred has never directly offended me but others who do not deserve it. Fred should appreciate these comments because they are comments so like his. He loves to put down people he has never met and call them sinners. Fred admitted that he was once a bad person, but changed. But in his eyes no one deserves a second chance. They should just be humiliated and taught a lesson and then disappear from the world. When people call him on it, he just says that he is better than the rodents around him and that we should all kiss his feet. Fred is like a person in a chat room that says he looks better than he does to impress some girl and then when she meets him she sees that he was only saying that because that is what he would like to be. The difference is that we know what Fred is and it is just fun watching someone pretend to be better than what they are. I only opened this site a week ago and feel it's time to throw away the BS and analyze Fred. I welcome any comments on this topic. We certainly don't want Fred to go away, we think it's funny to watch him speak his mind. Face it, without Fred, none of us would even go to this site. Topics I would like to discuss:

1) Low self-esteem
2) Love of Tiger-balm
3) Scary Religious People
4) Stupid police officers
5) Digging for relics like Indiana Jones (Raiders of the Lost Trona Park?)

I've been told the pen is mightier than the sword. Looks like Samurai Fred has committed hari-kiri.He was careless in his use of the pen and sharp were the words he used.

I used to live in Trona and find all this very misleading Fred. Your comments leave me to believe you are the one Tronite that you your self describe as incest bred. If you really know anything about Trona, you would know that for the last 10 or so years, San Bernardino County has sent nothing but the lowest of the low to the Sheriff Station in Trona. We all thought when KD arrived as a Sheriff that maybe we were going to see some changes in Trona. But unfortunatley that did not happen since with KD they kept sending Sheriffs on the take. Yes on the Take, KD is the only Sheriff that is decent and upstanding that has been sent to Trona since they took Chris and Troy away from us.
Talk to Your so called Pac-Man and ask how he got that nick name? It was not due to his attack on crime, but it was for his involvement in the crimes and the kick back pay he recieves from Shawn and Robbie Barker. Lets see now if you can prove me wrong. PacMan is involved with the Barkers who are trying to take over Trona and has said they will own Trona within 5 years. This may be true since people like Arzel Hale (IMC Chemicals plant manager) insures that the Barkers recieve all the contracts for most of the valley's work, and I am sure the brick fences and ect. that are given for favor of recieving sealed bid information to gaurantee the Barkers get the contracts will help the achieve thier goal. Then there is the pay offs that the Barkers give to PacMan to make sure that they do not get bothered by the Sheriffs in Trona help them also. Other wise why is it that Robbie Barker (The biggest crack-head in Trona) never gets arrested or in trouble with the law there in Trona? Hum, all this is going on in front of the good people in Trona, and there are good people in Trona. Trona's problem is the few bad that the Sheriff protect. PacMan is so busy protecting the biggest Crooks and Law breakers in Trona and Harrassing the small timers that he and the Barkers are the ones ruining Trona.
Take some advise "Do clean out your own closet before instructing others on how to clean out theirs".

to eric: I willed a quarter of a million dollars to the Womens' Center in Ridgecrest. Then un-willed it because the counselors there are advocates of recovered memories,a scam. So I willed half a million dollars to the Ridgecrest Boys & Girls Club and that I'll let stay as-is. What have you people who attack me done lately to help humanity? To help children? You people suck. You suck golf balls thru a garden hose. You can't spell, you can't enunciate. Even your insults are guttural. You're cyberspace trolls. Lions with a keyboard, sheep in the real World. Most of all, you're boring. And you certainly epitomize the very worst of desert communities like Trona.

to Kathy Hill: What do you think would be the response if Arzel Hale and Tim Lotspeich read what you posted here?

Posted by: Fred at June 27, 2005 06:31 PM

The Truth Hurts? Can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. I can prove everything I posted can you?

Posted by: Kathy Hill at June 27, 2005 06:38 PM

Wow fred, a little pissed off there are we? I think its funny because so far you have yet to prove yourself actually worthy of anyones company. I read these posts for the same reason as everyone else, it shames me to have you living in Trona. I dont even live there anymore and it is so embarassing to have you talking like you are so much better than anyone else. Well news flash. You are not, and even though you think all these residents of trona suck, you blow. And we ALL know who you blow!!

Posted by: Someone at June 27, 2005 06:41 PM

I'm not better than everyone else. I'm just better than you.

Posted by: Fred at June 27, 2005 06:52 PM

How do you figure you are better than me? You dont know anything about me, but according to these posts, you have alot of issues, security and emotionally, and yet I dont have that problem. And to top it off, if Trona is so bad, YOU still live there. And its not because you are trying to help anyone, its because no one else wants you. Go back to what you are good at, I am sure Pac Man needs some good pleasure tonight.

Posted by: Someone at June 27, 2005 07:00 PM

Let Arzale and Pac Man read that post. What are they going to do? And by the way, I hear the Barkers are also free tonight.

to Kathy Hill: What do you think would be the response if Arzel Hale and Tim Lotspeich read what you posted here?

Posted by: Fred at June 27, 2005 06:31 PM

What do you think would be the response? Are you suggesting that Mr. Hale would retaliate using his position to do so ? and what do you think Deputy Lotspiech response is gonna be; to begin harassing Mrs. Hill ?
I wonder what the response is going to be when Arzale and Tim find out that you toss thier names around in this trash rag. That's when the fun will begin.
Quit using other peoples names to back yourself up, or use in a threatening manner. Stand alone and fight you humorous losing battle.
Fate or karma Fred...And then the End comes.

If You want the truth about Trona, Then you should take the time to meet the citizens of the town. I agree that Fred sounds like someone who has issues.
I live in Trona and have for several years. There are problems in Trona, just like in any Town or City in the U.S.A. But I think what Fred is missing is the fact that there are people in Trona that are really great. Maybe not a lot but the few are what make Trona a great place to live and raise a family. I do agree with the comments about the sheriff and a few of the big wigs here, but then again I dont live my life around such low lifes. I do have great friends and they are very honest and trust worthy. They also work hard to make Trona a better place but with people like you and those you defend working to distroy this town, how is it to get better. You can have all that money you claim to have but do nothing to improve the situation and keep running crap through your teeth or you could help the good people of Trona make it better. Like you were told previously, It is not the people who where born and raised there that have distroyed it, it is people like you that gossip and spread lies and rumors that have brought this town down. Another words Put up or Shut up you idiot.
I have one question to ask you, are you enjoying living in that chained link fenced Trona house on 9th street in Pioneer Point That happens to be just off Elm Street? If you do then maybe you should start defending your town you must have been proud to purchase a home in. Or where you deaf, dumb, and blind when you bought it and decided this is where you wanted to live out the rest of your days.

Posted by: A Neighbor of Freds at June 27, 2005 07:23 PM

The World's so wicked, the World's so wrong. I love Insane Clown Posse. I thank some unknown 16 year old Trona boy for this. I picked cards off the fake Christmas tree at the Trona so-called bank. And here was this brat, probably in Argus and he wanted for Christmas Insane Clown Posse,a skateboard,CD player, bicycle, etc. So I bought it all. I went crazy buying stuff for these kids I never knew nor ever would. And Audrey told me don't pick out kids by the cards 'cause the goodies should be spread evenly amongst all Trona's children. So I gave another $1,000 in cash. What you got for last Christmas, kids,it came from me. Did you like the new radio controlled firetruck? How about the bicycles and pretty green or blue nightlights? The new clothes, new shoes and everything else? I ordered the Insane Clown Posse CD then when it arrived and heard it I did'nt want the 16 year old boy hearing it thinking suicide or murder. So I kept it. And now it's my favorit CD.

BINGO! Fred's neighbor,

A 6 ft. fence, barred windows and loaded guns tell me that Fred is one paranoid individual. Those types are considered dangerous in the Psycological field.
Attention needs to be brought to all this ranting he has been posting. I have a bad feeling this is all leading to a tragic end.
Beware neighbors, I'm a bit worried about what and who Fred is going to retaliate on when he finally "goes off the deep end".
Maybe the best thing now is to quit feeding the monkey and hope he finds a banana tree in some other town far far away from here.

Posted by: BODYGUARD FOR SBC at June 27, 2005 07:54 PM

I was wondering if any of the real people would respond to the allegation that Arzel Hale is engaged in criminal enterprise.

Posted by: Fred at June 27, 2005 08:10 PM

I would not put it past him. As a head honcho there at the plant, I have never met him. but from what I hear throughout the plant he can be capable. but I havent heard anything about it.
To Bodygaurd, the Barker boys are full of shit. They dont doante, they buy their way through town. Wow they do alot huh? And employ 100 people? out of the 3000+ residents of Trona. And their all night drinking parties and screwing everyone they can. The accusations are true, you would have to be pretty stupid to not know this. And by the way, if you are Bodygaurd "SBC" then do you have a hand in his pocket also? If you do, is it for the money or pure entertainment?

Posted by: someone at June 27, 2005 08:23 PM

Who runs this website;Mike? I'm wondering if he comprehends what's really going on here. I'll say this,it rates the Drudge Report. You can spend years searching the web and never find anything like this.

Posted by: Fred at June 27, 2005 08:25 PM

And according to DI, Pac Man will not touch the Barker boys. Slander is stating fiction and this my friend is all fact. By the way, what are you going to do about it?

Posted by: Kathy Hill at June 27, 2005 08:29 PM

I am so unbelievably tired of this crap. Don't you people have anything better to do than insult each other? This ends now.
